Politico: Reid's Favors to Family Dragging Him Down

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has found himself slowly sinking into the political quicksand as he faces close public scrutiny over potentially enriching family members through his powerful position as a Democratic leader.

The Nevada senator has recently become embroiled in the embarrassing controversy surrounding the $31,268 that his campaign paid to his granddaughter Ryan Elisabeth Reid for the purchase of gift items from her jewelry line, according to Politico.

But his weakness for pulling strings to help family members was first exposed by the Los Angeles Times a decade ago when a Nevada land bill proposed by Reid appeared to benefit his son-in-law Steve Barringer's consulting firm and his sons' legal firm.

The Howard Hughes Corp. paid $300,000 to the Washington firm Steve Barringer worked for to push a provision allowing the company to buy 1,000 acres of federal land for development in the then-burgeoning Las Vegas area, according to the Times.

The bill also benefited a real-estate development headed by a senior partner in the Nevada law firm that then employed all four of Reid's sons — Rory, Leif, Josh, and Key — by moving the right-of-way for a federal power transmission line off his property and onto what had been protected federal wilderness.

In its report, the Times said, "So pervasive are the ties among Reid, members of his family, and Nevada's leading industries and institutions that it's difficult to find a significant field in which such a relationship does not exist."

Reid's reputation for promoting his family's power, status, and wealth was further enhanced when it was revealed that he had lobbied the mayor of Henderson and a councilwoman to support his son Josh Reid's application to become the city's attorney.

Reid’s corruption has been public knowledge throughout the duration of his Senate leadership, as reported here on FR and elsewhere. There needs to be an investigation to identify who has been protecting him.

The media in Nevada doesn't do their job of reporting and instead serves as shills for Obama and Reid.

The media didn't report how the Clark County School District brought in teachers from outside the state to fill positions that teachers already in state wouldn't be considered for.

Meanwhile they redid the evaluation standards to try to write up current teachers in state earning more money as incompetent, so they could pay less to new teachers coming in from out of state.

Then when Obama needed support he posed with teachers at a school here.

The Clark County Superintendent Dwight Jones also fled the county after getting at least one principal pregnant. The rumors are everywhere and the press won't print a thing.

Press here are just lapdogs for the Democrats fighting over scraps that get dropped.

That is correct. The problem is what you quoted, the RINO machine will not allow that. They want business as usual. Until the system has a severe collapse the changes will come but then it might be too late.

The SEC and IRS should examine every document filed by (a) The Clinton Global Initiative, (b) Caesar's Foundation and (c) The NV Energy Foundation

Every official tax-exempt document needs to be scrutinized in conjunction w/ possible connections to Harry Reid.

Perjury, forgery, govt fraud, and voter fraud need to be considered. For example: people may have been coached to lie on voter registration forms, and perhaps candidacy papers falsified.

Falsifying Official Public Documents involves altering, changing, or modifying a document for the purpose of deception.......can also involve forgery and/or passing copies of false documents. Falsifying documents is usually done in connection with broader criminal aims, such as extortion, government fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, financing terrorism........
