Eric Holder Wishes Critic ‘Good Luck With Your Asparagus’ After Testy Exchange

After getting grilled at the House Judiciary Committee hearing, Attorney General Eric Holder wished one of his outspoken critics “good luck with your asparagus.”

It was a not-so-subtle dig at Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, inspired by the congressman’s flub last year when he warned Holder not to “cast aspersions on my asparagus.”

Holder has had a testy relationship with several Republican lawmakers since the Republican-led House held him in contempt of Congress two years ago for failing to turn over certain documents tied to the Fast and Furious scandal involving botched firearms sting operations, despite a congressional subpoena seeking those documents.

In asking Holder today about the Justice Department’s refusal to turn over documents in an unrelated terrorism case, Gohmert again raised the issue of contempt, saying, “I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight.”

A visibly upset Holder, leaning back in his chair, shot back, “You don’t want to go there, buddy. You don’t want to go there, ok?”

“You should not assume that that is not a big deal to me,” Holder continued, pointing a finger toward the congressman. “I think it was inappropriate. I think it was unjust, but never think that was not a big deal to me. Don’t ever think that.”

Gohmert pressed the issue. “There have been no indications that it was a big deal, because your department has still not been forthcoming in producing the documents that were the subject of the contempt.”

“I don’t need lectures from you about contempt,” Gohmert added.

Unless Obama issues him a pardon when he leaves office, there should be a sealed indictment ready, and Holder should be dragged before a hostile federal judge in irons.

Holder was bad from the get go. I remember at the beginning of his career how Holder dragged his feet on prosecuting Dan Rostenkowski (D-5th). The Clintons still had use for the head of the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and he did not go on trial until after he was voted out of office in 1994 (losing to a Republican unknown).

How did this low-life get confirmed for AG?

"In a tyranny, everyone is a criminal, except for the government and anyone who is part of the government."

I had to donate to Gohmert’s campaign. Worth the $25 hearing that exchange.

“You don’t want to go there, buddy. You don’t want to go there, ok?”

Or...what? What are you going to do about it?

You are speaking in public, in Congress, to an elected congressman, the representative of the people in his district.

Congress as a whole has become the rubber stamp.

As a group, they’re like those gnarly old men in “300.” Gowdy, Cruz, and Gohmert are exceptions, as is Bachmann.
