Gun Control Fail: NY's ‘Assault Weapon’ Registration Is Loudly Miss-Firing As Deadline Nears

By April 15th, any New Yorker that owns an “assault weapon” is to have registered their gun, per the requirements of the New York SAFE act passed last year. But it’s looking more and more like a tiny percentage of New Yorkers are actually doing it.

While the state of New York has not released actual firearms registration numbers, the rumors of registrations in the 3,000-5,000 range mean that 99% of those affected gun owners are refusing to comply with the law.

“Civil disobedience” worked for Gandhi, and for Nelson Mandela.

Sure, you may very well go to jail, but that is the price of raising awareness of an existing or impending tyranny.

It turns out support for the 2nd Amendment is alive and well in New York!

Good for New Yorkers, let's hope it stays that way.

The tyrants in the legislature and their goons are “taking this very seriously.”

“Salutary neglect”
Salutary neglect is a term used in the American history, referring to an unofficial and long-lasting 17th- & 18th-century British policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws, meant to keep the American colonies obedient to England.

Lawless government passes unconstitutional laws, the people ignore them and impatiently wait for the gun-grabbers to go away while the GOP plans another surrender.
Ah, the Obama years.

Let’s hope it lasts beyond the first 4am Flashbang Boogiewoogie dynamic entry “example” they decide to make.

It will happen, sooner or later. The thugs can’t contain themselves for too much longer.

Perhaps only because Great Britain was, at the time, relatively civilized with due process and criminal trials. Gandhi spent his time in jail.

If one had tried the same thing with Stalin or Mao as one's persecutor, one could expect to disappear into the re-education camps never to be seen again.

Our Founders tried civil disobedience and then refused to pay for the destruction of untaxed tea. This was shortly followed by attempts to disarm them. "Civil disobedience" ended on April 19th, 1775, with many years of death and destruction to follow.

We have guns here in the Adirondack Mountains since 1640.

Our sights is wetted.

Did anybody watch "Turn" on AMC last night? Looks to me like AMC may have hit a home run with a history based drama. It was very good.

The irony of this is lost on the left. The vast majority of liberal voters that pushed for this are city dwellers (like NYC) where guns are illegal (by and large). The gun owners are in the rural parts of NY state and are the minority as the voting populace go (More Republicans are gun owners = assumed).

So, quite obviously, officials elected by liberals, passed laws that would criminalize a good chuck of their opposition. And they found the affected parties are objecting by avoiding participation in a mandate.

Good for them. I expect there have been a lot of boating accidents in and around New York recently. lol

Watched it and liked it very much. Anybody that’s dialed in to the current state of affairs needs to watch it with that in mind, IMO.

Yep. I bring up that very quote when the “law and order” types start forgetting that some laws SHOULD NOT exist in the first place.

Complying with an illegal law would be the real “civil disobedience.” Conforming to the real law, i.e., the Constitution, on the other hand, would be “civil obedience.”

We need to be ready to frame the debate.

What other purpose could it possibly serve?
