AGI ^ | April 5, 2014

(AGI) Kiev, April 5 - Ukraine has declared that they will not pay the price of almost 500 dollars per cubic metre for Russian gas, announced recently by the Russian gas consortium Gazprom.

Kiev has also accused Moscow of conducting 'economic' aggression'. "Political presure will prove useless, we are not accepting the price of 500 dollars", Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenuk said during a cabinet meeting.

He added: "Russia has not succeeded in conquering Ukraine with military aggression, so now they are opting for an economic aggression."

Exactly. With the onset of spring time, its easy to say you’re not going to pay. When fall rolls around, not so easy.

Why couldn’t Ukraine raise the price of using the pipelines, unless the Russian oil companies own them? The free economy and something like this going on without outside meddling might actually cause some dialogue.

Russia pays Ukraine to transport oil thru Ukrainian pipelines to Europe. Ukraine can raise the price of transport Russian.

What happens when costs go up for your utility provider? Think hard...

"The new USA will draw a line in the sand, give a belligerent speech, and lead from behind."

Even worse, we'll probably give Ukraine financial aid which will then be transferred to Russia to pay for the gas. Magic! Obama pays Putin.

“It doesn’t seem that Ukraine has much of a choice —”

Wrong. Work is already underway to reverse the flow of natural gas in the pipelines to supply the Ukraine from Weastern Europe at market prices. Although the move will not satisfy Ukraine’s supply and economic needs in the short term, new supplies can be delivered to the Ukraine in the mid-term and long term from a variety of sources. Western Europe in the long term is also going to need the same alternative supplies as the Ukraine. Those new supplies can come from massive fields in the Mediterranean, the North Sea, and fracking existing fields in Eastern Europe.

The problems may be especially difficult in the short term, but they are quite soluble in the long term. Loss of most of Europe as customers for Russia will have long term disastrous effects upon the economy of Russia as it did upon the Soviet Union.

And of course if Ukraine raises the price to Gazprom of transport equal to raise in price Russia charges Ukraine... then there is no cost increase to the "utility provider", Russia.

Do the math Boris.

Think hard...

Irony.

When Russia steals Ukrainian weapons, like its ships, Putin’s robots on FReeRepublic cheer him for being a successful thief and bully.

When Russia steals Ukranian weapons...

1. Someone posted that they were Russian weapons that stayed in Ukraine upon its independence.

2. Did Russia "steal" the majority of Ukrainian military that chose to stay in the Ukraine, too?

My 5 year old does the same thing. He says what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine.

So when does Chechnya get self determination? When will Konigsberg be returned to Germany?

Piracy is a clear issue under international law. Russia has pirated Ukrainian ships. No amount of Russian squat toilet licking propaganda changes that.

You're using CHECHNYA as an example?? The bombing of the Boston marathon could've been prevented last year if the US had heeded Russia's warnings about those darn terrorist bombers.

Konigsberg now is basically a navy base, a tiny commercial port, and a couple auto plants (BMW and GM Chevrolet). It’s population are sailors, dockers, prostitutes and auto workers.
