I had, back in 66, a 64 Impala SS with the best engine ever built the 283. It was overall light blue and blue interior. It was factory 3 speed on the column but I put a Hurst Shifter in on the floor. Traded it for a NEW 67 GTO.

I woulda died to have the 409 back then! First big block ever, I think.

Second big block (came out in 1961; quite brutal for its day, with the base version putting out 360 horses with a single 4-bbl Carter AFB carb; the more famous 409 was the one with 409 horses and dual 4-bbl setup).

First big block was the 348, which came out all the way back in 1958. Imagine if they had dropped that into the Corvette of that year, especially the “Super Turbo Thrust” 315-hp version?

The 409 was a bigger version of the 348 that came out in 1958, My Dad had a 59 with that engine, nothing short of a Vette could beat it, and he was sorry after he sold it. Saw one on Barrett-Jackson a couple of months ago sell for over $100k.

Your right. Ours is a Station Wagon which is 400 HP stock. Pure Torque hooked up to a 4 on the floor. NEVER LOST A RACE. We got it in 1965, and I still have it.
