Chevron Takes Battle To Radical Environmentalist Lobby

Litigation: After thwarting a $9.5 billion judgment from an Ecuadorean court, Chevron is going after the entire edifice of environmentalist enablers who make such junk lawsuits possible. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

To the surprise of many, the oil giant is suing the tony, white-shoe law firm of Patton Boggs for alleged unethical involvement in an all-out legal attack by environmentalists over rainforest pollution in Ecuador.

Chevron accuses the oh-so-respected firm of lying, concealing inconvenient facts, running a public smear campaign and miscellaneous other flim-flammery, all for the sake of the dollar signs spinning in their eyes.

I got into a debate with a Liberal about “Big Oil.” I reminded him that the many comforts of his modern life are because of “Big Oil.”

I gave him a few examples and asked him if he would be happy with an increase the cost of his heating bill or gasoline.

They’ll turn on a dime. The snarling, arrogant attack dogs will instantly become whining puppies.

Oh, big mean Chevron is coming after us little cuddly environmentalists. Not fair. We want a time out. We want special protections. Wah-wah-wah.

Watch for it.

When you think about the number of moving parts in the oil biz and the need for these companies (”big oil”) to plan 5-7-10-15 years out and to develop massive, massive infrastructure at the cost of billions to do what they do and all the time they are taking incredible risks and taking on monumental technological challenges...I can’t see how anyone with a functioning brain cannot respect them.

Forgetting whether you favor or hate them....the sheer scale of what they do and the time frames...from days, in the futures markets to years, in infrastructure, is astounding. That’s of course assuming you investigate what it takes for them to do what they do instead of copping a foolish, shallow attitude.

I wish Chevron good luck but no longer believe that the court system is the way to go. Justice is extinct.

Bhe “Boggs” here is the son of former house leader Hale Boggs.
His sister is Cokie Roberts. Another indication about once these characters get to K street, they are nothing but ticks sucking sustenance from the US economy.

The people with the foolish, shallow attitudes are just cannon-fodder useful idiots for the people behind this deal.

They didn't have a foolish, shallow attitude. They had a "I think I see a way to put a few million in my bank account" attitude. You get hundreds of operators with that attitude together and you've got this situation.

I see - from reading the article - that Patton Boggs is right in the middle of all this.

Patton Boggs is run by Thomas Hale Boggs, big-time Democrat, brother of NPR's Cokie Roberts, once Democrat candidate for Governor of Maryland.

Patton Boggs is a huge incubator for Democrat operators troublemakers and crooks, going back decades. It's a bunch of lobbyists. In this case, they participated in a flag-out shakedown of Chevron for almost $10B. Didn't work out.

You’re right....the average lib has the bumper sticker attitude, but at the top of that heap are the Sierra Clubbers and these legal types who troll for legal costs and then this crew.

Here’s hoping they get reamed and reamed good.

And his mother was Lindsey Boggs who took over her husband’s seat when he was killed.

Exactly. It shows complete ignorance.

It is like complaining about too much salt being in a Big Mac while most of the world population is suffering from starvation and malnutrition.

What they don’t understand is that if their wishes came true, life would be very difficult for them and their families.

I guess the best word to describe them is “ingrate.”

Exactly. Parasites.

The sit in their white ivory towers, provided to them by these large corporations, and pontificate about how bad they are.

Cokie Roberts’ sister? Spiritually related to Dan Rather?

A big business getting assertive and fighting back against its critics? Will wonders never cease. Maybe the Republicans will take note.
