The Weekly Standard ^ | Jan 3, 2014 | MICHAEL WARREN

Merkley is a dedicated liberal who fits a state increasingly defined by its biggest city, the insufferably hip and progressive Portland. How can the GOP hope to take back this seat? One Republican challenger appears to be focusing on Merkley's vote and support for Obamacare. Monica Wehby, a pediatric neurosurgeon, has a new ad that juxtaposes news coverage of Oregonians who have had health insurance plans canceled to Merkley's promise in 2009 that under Obamacare, citizens would "have the choice of sticking with the plan you have."

She looks pretty hot. That helps. She’s no Barbara McKulsky.

It’s a dual race....Jason Conger, former state pol is running against her...quite the battle here....I still am not sure who I’m voting for....seems the abortion issue is what people are focusing on....

I've given up on the voting unless things change (a lot).

Lost on my two big state issues -- abortion and gay marriage. Maybe a third I can't remember right now.

Just going to shelter in place for the time being.

Gee, imagine that. The Weekly Standard promoting a “Pro Choice” Republican that’s had 40% of her donations come from out of state VS a pro life guy.

Color me shocked.

Looks doggy to me on http://monicafororegon.com.

To each his own.

But I concede she’s probably quite intelligent.

You can bet she is pro-homosexual marriage. Don’t want to be considered an extremist.

How about a new bumper sticker: Keep your Doctor, get rid of your Liberal Democrat Senator/Congressman

But please, vote. Vote your conscience. Whether the way you voted wins or not, does not reflect on you at all. It’s the Portland and Eugene and Corvallis dimocrats. The rest of the state is red!

You aren’t suggesting voting for a pro-abortion Republican, are you? (I am in WA, as you know, and also have difficulty finding any acceptable and viable candidates at the state level).

No, I would never vote for a pro-abortion Republican.

I didn't think so.
Other subject: Thinking of taking the girls to a Byzantine Mass in Spokane later this week (spring break). Been to a couple myself -- quite interesting.

I have not been to this small church — A few years ago we had Byzantine Masses here in Richland celebrated by a visiting Portland priest.
