The United States and Russia agreed on the need for a diplomatic solution in the Ukraine crisis, Secretary of State John Kerry said.
Kerry also stressed that Ukraine would have to be at the table for negotiations. He made the comments at a news conference Sunday night after speaking at length with his Russian counterpart.
Kerry said the Russian troop build-up along the border is creating a climate of fear and intimidation in Ukraine and is not helpful.
Kerry sat down with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the residence of the Russian ambassador to France to go over Moscow's response to a U.S. plan to de-escalate the situation.

Folks nowadays tend to forget that the September 29, 1938, agreement that 'solved' the Czechoslovakia Crisis of that era was a diplomatic solution that gave Hitler the areas in Czechoslovakia that were populated by German speakers.
And we all know how well... that diplomatic solution turned out, don't we?
Nothing good will come of this.

I heard Obama and Putin reached a diplomatic solution saving the Ukraine. The bad news is Putin gets Alaska back and a missile base in Texas.
Everybody saves face but Russia keeps Crimea.
Why should it matter to the US who gets Crimea?
I think the point is that nobody gets U.S. foreign policy. Especially the people making it.
Our foreign policy is now based on the greatest threat to the world is global warming, and fags not being allowed to marry.
I’ve seen this movie before circa 1938.
And that is as foreign as policy can get. But it isn’t the same thing .
All Vlad has to do is offer Barry some kind of an out that he can claim as a diplomatic solution and he will jump on it.
This will be a replay of the fake solution Vlad offered to Barry to bail him out of the Syria Red-Line crisis.
