ST. PAUL, Minn. — The troublesome fish currently known as Asian carp may get a new name in Minnesota over concern that the current one casts people from Asian cultures in a negative light.

Proposals advancing in the Legislature would require the Department of Natural Resources to refer to the fish as "invasive carp," a reference to the threat the non-native fish pose to Mississippi River-area ecosystems.

I doubt that my suggested name, Yellow Peril Carp, will be rejected.

By the way, there's a man from the Netherlands here to complain about Dutch Elm Disease.

rejected->accepted. Got too tricky with the double negative.

Keep in mind this state has sent Keith Ellison and Al Franken to represent them in CONgre$$..

Sez the guy whose state sent Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi to represent them in Congress. Your glass house is as big as ours.

Mark Ritchie and a bunch of Democrat union thugs sent Stuart Smalley to Congress by cheating their way through an election. Ellison is a big-city Communist like we see elected too often all over the country, unfortunately.

That said, this renaming carp idea is stupid.

How come no one is concerned that the carp might be falsely stereotyped as violin-playing overachievers? Does insane thinking not work in both directions?

Is the fish edible?

Yes, but lots of small bones. Best smoked or canned, so I've heard. Hey, can them as part of the EBT crowd's permitted food allowance!

It doesn’t matter if they’re edible if people don’t want to fish for them.

They are filter feeders anyway, and would seldom be caught on hook and line. I saw a TV special in which fishermen in boats equipped with hand nets were scooping them out of the air in a competition.

Cat food? Works for me! But getting the processing plants built will take years with all the NIMBYs and regulatory horrors.

One major problem is that this carp eats everything in its’ path and grow to great size.

Everyone still knows they’re “Asian carp”, and calling them “invasive carp” just adds insult to insult.

Nonetheless, it would probably taste fine if you deep-fried it.

Isn't one of the big issues with these carp is their aerial leaps when startled by a boat making them a 30 pound missile?

Asians were raised not to cause conflict. However, that doesn't work very well for us in the United States where competition is intense and we get rolled over all the time because we tend not to fight, people are mean and selfish, and nobody will take care of you if you don't even fight for yourself. It's time for changes because we are Americans and we deserve happiness, success, prosperity, and respect, just as everybody else!
