Alan Grayson says US ‘should be pleased’ Russia annexed Crimea
The Daily Caller ^ | March 26, 2014 | Alexis Levinson

Florida Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson said Tuesday that the United States “should be pleased” about Russia annexing the Crimea, calling it “a virtually bloodless transfer of power.”

At a Foreign Affairs Committee mark-up Tuesday, Grayson said that the referendum in Crimea was the entirely legitimate vote by a group of people who were upset that their chosen leader, ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, had been removed from office. The role of Russian forces, in his telling, was simply that of peacekeeper.

“You may say that [Yanukovych] was thrown out of office for good reason. There are allegations against him that he was corrupt, there are allegations against him that he used the military against his own people to stay in power. But the fact is that from the perspective of the Crimeans, their leader, the one that they placed in charge of their country, was thrown out of power,” Grayson said. “So it should come as no surprise … that the Crimeans had had enough, and they wanted to leave this artificial entity called the Ukraine.”(continued)

I wonder what position Alan will take when Texas votes to secede from the union? What will he think when America starts to fall apart because of the leadership in this country?

Here is an ass putting up a smoke screen in the form of a silver lining. It's like saying, "at last their weren't 5,000 innocent Americans killed on 9/11."

I may have to change my opinion of the whole Crimea thing. There is no way I would ever agree with this psychopath.

"The US" should be neither pleased nor displeased with the democratically decided annexation. Our government should be disinterested in the non-threatening doings of another sovereign country.

But, while we're choosing sides, what does Grease-son think of the democratically elected government of Ukraine being overpowered by anarchists?

The leftists are frightened to death that Americans will perceive issues of greater importance to them than Globull Warming, gay marriage and bullying.

I’m going to rob a local bank and use the Grayson defense.

Maybe some republican congressman down there should take over Grayson’s district and overthrow him. See how he likes it.

The voters did flush him back in 2010.

He’s obviously a floater, because he’s popped back up again 2 years later.

I expect Grayson’s resignation no more than 60 seconds after Russia crosses its border once again, which should be any time now

Let's assume for the moment that Texas is the only state that wants to leave. Now you have two options:

a) Use military force, kill thousands of people, and force the rest to remain in the union, lest they too want to be killed.

b) Let Texas go. This means Texas is free to join any other state on the planet.

The point is that the union (in any form, anywhere) exists only on voluntary grounds. Once a large enough territory wants to leave, you have lost them - if not physically then morally. Keeping people against their will is both dangerous and impractical. Even a short and victorious war against TX will leave too many scars.

I believe this is one of the reasons why Ukraine just voices their unhappiness, but makes no military moves to keep Crimea. It is simply not possible politically. We can argue about how many Crimeans exactly want to be part of Russia - 89% or 91% - but it's clear that Ukraine has no traction there. Ukraine was only acceptable when the state was more or less stable. Today Ukrainian Parliament raised taxes, and there is another crowd outside, trying to evict this set of rulers just weeks after they assumed control. This is exactly how anarchy works. Crimeans are probably happy that they escaped Ukraine just in time, even if you only consider taxes.
