Palin Endorses Karen Handel in Georgia Senate Race

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has endorsed Karen Handel for U.S. Senate in Georgia. Palin made the announcement on her Facebook page, citing a quotation attributed to Margaret Thatcher: "If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman." Handel, the former secretary of state and an unsuccessful candidate for governor in 2010, is in a five-way GOP primary for the Senate seat currently held by retiring Republican Saxby Chambliss.

Handel has found herself locked into an effective tie with most of the other Republican candidates, although businessman David Perdue has been ahead in two recent polls, while Jack Kingston, a congressman from Savannah, is polling around second place. The other contenders for the nomination are congressmen Paul Broun and Phil Gingrey.

Palin noted the importance of the race for Republicans in her endorsement of Handel. "This Georgia Senate race is very important to the Democrats and has long-term repercussions for 2016 as Democrats test the waters to see if they can win big in a red state with a woman candidate," Palin wrote. "That is why the GOP needs a strong contender like Karen Handel. She is the conservative candidate who can win this race and hold this seat for the GOP."

In an editorial for the latest issue of THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Fred Barnes notes Handel and Kingston are both candidates that would be "tough to beat" for the strong Democratic candidate, Michelle Nunn.

If that's the only reason she has then I "f@rt in her general direction."

Very bad choice. Sarah should have done her homework instead of just picking the chick.

She must be friends with Handel, because she endorsed her over now-Governor Nathan Deal back in 2010, too.

I seems that when there is a group of candidates, and one is a woman, she will always support the woman. If the woman is the most conservative, then I don’t have a problem with it. But I don’t think this is always the case.

I love Sarah, but that's unhelpful. The Left plays gender politics. If you want something done, ask a conservative.

"the strong Democratic candidate, Michelle Nunn. " =BS.

The rather homely and totally inexperienced Michelle Nunn is "strong" in only the liberal medias imagination. The truth is she is a looser abusing her father's good name.

Michelle's mythical viability is bogus bait for global campaign contributions.

‘If’ she gave the endorsement because Handel’s gender, how is that any different that someone giving Obama a vote because of his race?

One thing I will say in defense of Karen Handel - She was a Republican back when being a Republican was not popular here. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, our current group of GOP politicians here in Georgia were supporting Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale, while Handel was supporting Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.

Agree. The same logic could be used to support Michele Nunn the Democrat's annointed candidate. Her only two qualifications are:

I agree. She has made several really bad enforcements and this is one.

Yes, and she quit working at Susan Komen when they decided to continue donations to Planned Parenthood. At least she stuck to her moral beliefs.

It’s no different. That’s why Palin is a non-entity in national politics.

A woman Republican means nothing to me unless she is the best conservative. Same goes for white guys, black guys, Hispanic guys, orientals and all mixes of the above. It’s the politics....

With Broun sinking lately, maybe she went for the next most conservative one. And I know she’s adamantly working to counter the “war on women” crap. Though Kelly Ayotte and Deb Fischer have turned out to be disappointments. But since they blow with the winds, if the winds blow conservative, they’ll probably be with us.
