BRUSSELS President Obama offered a sustained and forceful rejoinder against Russia on Wednesday, denouncing the brute force he said it has used to intimidate neighbors like Ukraine and vowing that the United States will never waver in standing up for its NATO allies against aggression by Moscow.
In a speech meant as a capstone to his trip to Europe in the midst of an East-West confrontation with Russia, Mr. Obama addressed Moscows justifications for its intervention in Ukraine point by point, dismissing them as absurd or unmerited. He even defended the Iraq war, which he had opposed as a senator, as a stark contrast to the way Russia has seized the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine.
America and the world and Europe has an interest in a strong and responsible Russia, not a weak one, Mr. Obama told an audience of leading figures here in the capital of the European Union. But that does not mean that Russia can run roughshod over its neighbors. Just because Russia has a deep history with Ukraine does not mean it should be able to dictate Ukraines future. No amount of propaganda can make right something the world knows is wrong.
Make no mistake: Neither the United States nor Europe has any interest in controlling Ukraine, Mr. Obama said. We have sent no troops there. What we want is for the Ukrainian people to make their own decisions, just like other free people around the world.
Russias leadership is challenging truths that only a few weeks ago seemed self-evident, that in the 21st century the borders of Europe cannot be redrawn with force, that international law matters, that people and nations can make their own decisions about their future, he said.

Oh, yeah. Those who live by lies and brute force, die by lies and brute force.
Obama has lived by soft bullying. That has met hard bullying.
The proper thing for Russia to have done if it wanted Crimea to reunite with it, would be to purchase it from Ukraine. Ukraine might have even been happy to sell it.
The other shoe is going to fall, Barack Obama or no Barack Obama. People in Ukraine are all begging God to do justice now. Christians and Muslims alike.
Putin will understand this as meaningless babble.
BO is jealous.
He’ll just politely smile and go on with the business at hand.
Listened to 3/4 minutes of his talk today and all that came to mind was if we changed a name or two,i.e. EPA, DOJ etc he could have been speaking of himself and his cronies destroying his own country...And he’ll NEVER realize that !
I deplore the brute force of the Obama Administration.
Ask Muammar Gaddafi about brute force.
Hussein wanted to do the same in Syria on behalf of his muslim brotherhood but, thankfully, Putin bailed him out.
9 seconds...just damn
Brute farce is mostly like it, but he is backing up forces of wickedness. Even God is going to notice that.
It’s like Obama thinks he’s going to offend Putin by calling him “brute” when Putin has been working to earn that sobriquet. Makes Obama look like Scarlet having a tantrum in Gone With The Wind.
I’m hoping Putin gets a chance to bitch slap the idiot but I doubt BO has the balls to even think about meeting him.
Saying all the things the NYT would want to hear. What a reptile.
Maybe Putin will invite him to a tryst at the Kremlin and he won’t be able to resist any more. You brute! Yeah... Barack, you like?
I hope it doesn’t get THAT bad of course, but that’s a typical dirty trick of the devil.
Did obamadork call Putin a brute...ppfftt, not surprised.
This just might be the first time anyone has stood up to Obama and not suffered consequences - he can’t send the IRS after Vladi, the DoJ can’t sue him, and the Chicago mafia can’t get to him - so the only thing left is to throw a hissy fit.
Didn’t be just say they are weak? What the hell is going to come out of his mouth next?
Maybe Prezzy Scoldalot can talk Putin to death.
