As a 60 year old man with a 60 year old wife, I looked at the monthly cost of obamacare coupled with the deductible and decided it was a very bad deal. So we went insurance free.

We also took responsibility for our health in what we eat and how we exercise and live our lives. If one of us gets one of those “really expensive” illnesses, he/she will die.

It’s what we all do anyway. “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Wouldn’t it be something if an unexpected outcome to Obamacare was that Americans got healthier and relied less on medical conveniences? I am not saying that’s what you did,,your post just brings up the question.

It’s an interesting thought.

I did the same thing. The insurance quote I received would have drained my savings within a few years. The core problem with our healthcare system is that if you have to go to the hospital without insurance their billing system will screw you royally. That’s plain wrong and virtually nobody talks about it.

As of February 28, I had to drop my employer base Medical Insurance do to the increase in cost. Our premium went from $180 ever 2 weeks to $255 ever two weeks. That is $6630 per year plus a $6000 deductible after which the insurance pays 80%. With four kids we have not meet the deductible in the last 4 years.

So, we have decided to go without insurance and save the money instead. Not sure who considers over 20% of your income affordable.
