The world's leading industrial powers threatened further sanctions to deter the Kremlin from invading other parts of Ukraine and boycotted what was to be a Group of Eight summit hosted by President Vladimir Putin.

Meeting for the first time since last week's annexation of Crimea by Russia, Group of Seven leaders said they won't attend the planned G-8 meeting which was to have to been held in Sochi, site of the Winter Olympics, and will instead hold their own summit in June in Brussels.

"We remain ready to intensify actions including coordinated sectoral sanctions that will have an increasingly significant impact on the Russian economy, if Russia continues to escalate this situation," the G-7 said in a statement e- mailed after a meeting in The Hague today.

But the most stinging rebuke to Cowboy Vlad for his military recklessness is that the MSM promises not to publish pictures of Putin in any bare-chested poses.

Oh, because he’s such a baaaad man. Are they going to kick David Cameron out since his country is burning babies for fuel?

Don’t think so. Putin now has free calender space. That’s the only real consequence here.

IIRC, they were the last to join and not that long ago. It’s really no a big deal. (I’m gonna check and see if they begged Russia to join...because as we know...it’s all about money.

This is a pretty big rebuke.

Mostly symbolic, but it is certainly a big symbolic deal (and you can bet Obama played basically no part in it).

If you look at the article (can’t reproduce the picture) it’s more like “Ladies Doing Lunch”.

Let me see if I have this right . . .

Ukraine buys almost all its energy (natural gas)from Russia. Revenues from natural gas sales are a primary source of income for Russia.

Because of the recent disagreement between Ukraine and Russia, Russia is raising the price of natural gas it sells to The Ukraine.

The Ukraine is almost broke and can’t afford the increase in the natural gas price because it would be forced into bankruptcy.

President Obama (The USA) just announced the United States is giving The Ukraine, $1 billion to assist in paying for the higher priced natural gas it buys from Russia.

So, the United States is actually giving Russia $1 billion because the money is just passing through The Ukraine.

The first question: Has Vladimir Putin figured out a way to raise the price of his natural gas sales and make the U.S. pay for the increase?

Next question: Was he really in the KGB or was he a commodities trader ?

If this analysis is accurate, Vladimir Putin just got Barack Obama (the USA) to pay him $1 billion by holding a press conference and trucking some troops across town from the Russian Navy base in Ukraine.

Who is the Smartest guy in the room now ?

Oh Yes… Remember -

“I’ll have more flexibility after I am reelected.”

All that money spent on Sochi for nothing. Betcha in 10 years we'll start seeing pictures of disintegrating, unmaintained venues.

Even before Crimea the publicity wasn't very good - the athletes and journalists couldn't wait to get the hell out of there.

“Is Vlad due on Thursday’s Tonight Show ?”

No, but watch for him as a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and the cover of Time Magazine. If you are very very nice to Putin, he’ll take you to his private palace and show you his most revered photographs of his hero, Josef Stalin.

Pipelines (not all but some major ones) to Europe for natural gas run through Ukraine. If Ukraine shuts off its pipeline, Europe will be in desperate straights. And so will Russia. Lookie...

Russia is not raising the price, just getting rid of the discount that the Ukraine has been getting.

The Ukraine is up to their ears in debt.

The Ukrainians have not done well by their independence. And now they're going to mooch off us.

BTW, Ukraine was broke because Yanukovych had stolen perhaps $70 billion. But the Swiss banks have since frozen those accounts..and Ukraine is waiting for the return of such.

Russia--Putin--is playing a very cute game. But thx to Europe (not little Barry), he will lose.
