How the heck can someone get a fair trial 70 years after the accused supposedly committed the atrocities?
I thought I read somewhere that in the 1960s the Germans had essentially agreed that no more Germans would be punished for their war crimes, but I see there have been a few exceptions.
The numbers don’t do justice. There were about 8,000 SS personnel at Auschwitz alone.
Over the last years the Wiesenthal Center put up posters with rewards for tips in major German cities. All they have been able to do is forward the most promising ones and hope that German prosecutors take action. As a result there are some four or so trials in process now.
