Russian forces broke through the gate a Ukrainian airbase in Belbek, Crimea and demand the forces inside to surrender.

Amazing how many on twitter are calling for blood, for the Ukrainians to fight. But they aren’t there, they are watching from afar.

Interesting Tweet from the BBC:

There seems to be no in charge in Kiev to give the orders to get these guys out.
Local commanders are being forced to decide Independently.
I believe these folks were told to leave by the present Ukrainian government.
CNN reports:
Six Russian special forces’ armored personnel carriers broke through the gates of Belbek Airbase, firing warning shots into the air, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense in Crimea, Vladislav Seleznyov, told CNN.
One journalist was injured in the attack, he said.
Once inside, the Russians lined up the Ukrainians in one place, he said.
In a separate incident, pro-Russian self-defense forces stormed the Novofederoskoe military base, also in Crimea, taking control of it, a Ukraine Defense Ministry spokesman said Saturday.
Ukrainian forces on the base threw smoke bombs during the incident and retreated to the base’s headquarters, according to Seleznev, in a Facebook posting.
The base’s aviation brigade then sang the Ukrainian national anthem, lowered the Ukrainian flag and left the base, he said.
Very sad for these folks.....there was nothing they were going to do at this point against such an overwhelming force.

Yeah, we need to wait until maybe London, Russia asks for assistance.
We could probably hold out until Russian forces are floating down the Hudson looking to protect all Russian speaking peoples on these shores.
I grew up in a time and place where we did nuclear bomb training by hiding under our desks at school.
In the Air Force I was the responsible NCO for a Nuclear fallout shelter, once the bombs started flying.
What I am having trouble fathoming at the moment, is how no one seems to realize that Crimea is the first step in putting the gang back together. With so little resistance, Putin will only be encouraged to move farther and farther westward with his pace quickening with each conquest.
The youth of today is blessed to have grown up in such comparative peace and tranquility. They will be easier to conquer down the road.
Meanwhile, Obama wants to know how his NCAA brackets are doing..after all, that is SO much more important

Putin has a green light to do any of this because Obama & his Dither Doctrine will be in the WH for the next 3 years. As someone said on another thread, the biggest stick Obama has is in his golf bag.

Exactly my concern. The time to prepare is now and it is abundantly clear that the US is simply not going to do anything, hot or cold, proactively or actively. We will golf and leave it at that. Russia — and China too — see this and they understand that this is a rare opportunity. The world is changing, and it will not change back within my lifetime.
Wonder if Putin will try to get back Latvia? Being part of NATO that would really test the issue of how serious the world is on Putin and his dreams for a new Russia.

Apparently not.
Per CNN and Twitter, it appears the only “injured” was a German Journalist who stuck a camera in the wrong face, and refused orders to get away.
I think he’s missed 7 first round picks so the smartest man in the room DOES make mistakes ..... waiting in 3-2-1 to hear who he’s going to blame for the bracket busters.

I watched this live as Russia took out the gate and shots were fired.An ambulance came and drove off to the side to help people.
