You’re right. The insurance business is a “business” and these companies are not doing this business because they are a benevolent association of some kind to “help out people”. They’re going by the numbers and they’re not about to go bankrupt in their businesses.

SO ... if you take away from them the ability to exclude for pre-existing conditions (which they did before) and they can’t price policies according to specific health problems if they do decide to take someone — then it’s going to cost more.

But, if I’m someone who is coming into this system with a load of pre-existing conditions — I’m going to love the fact that my pre-existing conditions have now been spread throughout the insurance pool. I can NOW get coverage, whereas I couldn’t get it before at any price. However, the insurance companies are going to price it accordingly..

The only way we could have things priced as they were before - is that we all would have to have the insurance companies with policies where they could exclude people, they could price policies sky-high (for those who could afford it) for certain things — and — we would have to have a whole segment of our population be WITHOUT insurance.

In other words, we would have to return to lousier policies where fewer people could ever get coverage and large segments of our population to always be without insurance (then we could have what we had before). That way the insurance industry could basically “cherry-pick” the population for the best risks and exclude everyone else. Then they could “afford” to give those “cherry-picked people” something that could be somewhat affordable,

When you can’t exclude people from the insurance pool and you have to pay out for all pre-existing conditions and everyone is guaranteed the right to get insurance (and thus you can’t have larges swaths of our population WITHOUT insurance) - you’re going to have more expensive policies, because the insurance industry knows how these “numbers” are going to play out. AND ... in addition you’re going to find out that people really didn’t and don’t want to PAY THE BILL no matter what they said before in the past.

Yeah, I understand that (what you said) and it’s true. See my post #22.

Yeah, they are skyrocketing ... but there’s a reason ... you can’t get something for nothing. See my post #22.

“Obamacare’s coverage mandates increased costs to insurance companies. They’ve responded by narrowing provider networks to avoid increasing prices. So, for the same price as the policy many had pre-Obama, they can now only obtain coverage that narrows their choice of providers.”

Precisely true. Another consequence is that hospitals and networks are frantically trying to cut costs in order to be included in the insurance plans. Of course, to do this they are cutting services and destroying the morale of nurses, technicians and others.

No ... it’s just, very simply, that the insurance industry is a BUSINESS and they’re not going to go bankrupt and be known as a “benevolent association” ... LOL ...

See my post #22 for a little bit more on it.

It’s probably too late now for her to do this — so I say this as a warning to others. What people need to do is pick up a Medicare Supplemental plan right at their Open Enrollment period and get the “Plan F”. The supplemental plan is also referred to as “Medigap”.

I’ve picked it up and so now everything that Medicare does not pay, the Medigap policy will pick up 100%. People cannot pick up a better deal than that anywhere. And, when it’s done right at your Open Enrollment period (which is only ONE TIME in your entire life) - then there are no pre-existing conditions held against you and the policy is priced equally with everyone else who has good health.

The bottom line is GET IT no matter what!

Uh...yes, it did. That’s why my 50+ year old wife still has maternity coverage.

All these attempts at normalizing this anti-Constitutional crap is mere sophistry. The simple fact is that the government has NO business in the healthcare business, in any way, shape, form, or manner. The libtards successfully conflated health CARE with health INSURANCE, in their thinly veiled pogrom to bring another 16% of the US economy under their control.

We let them do it. And, we will pay the heavy, heavy price.

The problem is ... there has never been a “free ride”with insurance companies. They know their “numbers” and they’re going to price things accordingly, if you mandate “more coverage” and no pre-existing conditions and they can’t cherry-pick the population for better risks.

When “everyone” can get insurance and the insurance company can’t exclude people and price others higher than the rest of the average insurance pool - it’s going to cost more.

See my post #22.

Of course you can get something for nothing - just have the government mandate that someone else pay for it. Simple.

To get cheaper policies, the insurance companies need to be able to EXCLUDE CONDITIONS and EXCLUDE PEOPLE from coverage. The insurance companies NEED to have large segments of the population EXCLUDED from any health insurance in order to give the fewer who can get it - the kind of “affordable” coverage that they’re thinking about.

However, when pre-existing conditions cannot be a factor for excluding people or for pricing policies sky-high, then you’re going to get higher prices for everyone because even the BAD RISKS are included.

See my post #22.

Here’s the problem. Before Obamacare, you could choose from a wide range of policy options, deductibles, types of coverage to try and get something that worked for you and was affordable. NOW, it’s one size fits all, every plan must cover things like pediatric dental, Ob , drug and alcohol rehab AND no lifetime caps. Your option range is basically your premium and your deductible. That’s it. No surprise people are finding this crappy program a nightmare.

Let me qualify that for you ... as a society ... if you want to have health insurance available for everyone, and not exclude for pre-existing conditions and not price sky-high for these same conditions and not have a huge segment of the population permanently left out — you can’t get something for nothing. The insurance companies know how to price their product for including “everyone” in policies - even the “bad risks”.

“When “everyone” can get insurance and the insurance company can’t exclude people and price others higher than the rest of the average insurance pool - it’s going to cost more.”

Absolutely true. Also, as profit margins shrink, the insurance companies are going to become more and more aggressive in denying payment for ‘expensive’ items. It’s going to be a mess. Count on it.

Yeah ... as soon as the insurance companies can no longer “cherry pick” the population for the “best risks” and they have to include everyone - that’s what you’re going to get.

If you want to go back to the old pricing and the “affordable policies” — you’ll have to let the insurance companies “cherry pick” the population for the best risks, exclude for pre-existing conditions, have “caps” on your policy and have a large segment of the population permanently never able to get insurance.

But, from what I hear ... people like not having pre-existing conditions be a factor, they like not being excluded, they like not having caps — BUT — they don’t like the price ... LOL ...

I’ve been around long enough that I know what have been the complaints from people, in general, about health care and the ability to get it. Those are things that people talked about - long before Obamacare came around.

When it was left to the free market, people paid less and had wider choice.

The problem is all the mandates of Obamacare.

So what you’re saying is you’re really for fascist medicine. People can’t be charged less for taking good care of themselves, or for such things as sex reassignment surgery.

And, those who could have afforded health insurance but opted to spend their money on other things can’t be forced to pay for the downside risk of their choices if things go wrong—we have to pay for that.
