“I agree. But I still ask why didnt the passengers use their cell phones?’
Possibly the pilot told them there was a problem and told them not to use their phones and turn off all electric devices on the threat of being turned in to Chinese authorities when they landed if they disobeyed orders.
You have to remember you don’t have a plan full of Americans that thumb their nose at authorities.
These were people that are used to doing what they are told.
Thank you. I laughed out loud watching CNN yesterday when the news anchor read Goodfellow’s theory, she asked for comments, and one of the guests, a long time pilot and crash investigator totally dissected and skewered it. He pointed out:
1) If there were a fire or some type of problem you would immediately radio for help, not go completely silent.
2) You would immediately put the plane down if there were a major fire, because if the fire spreads to certain systems you are going to lose complete control of the plane, or the plane might explode in midair.
3) That would include putting the plane down in water. The anchor looked stunned and said: “I’m just trying to wrap my head around that?” To which the pilot said, you’re dealing with an emergency in which you only have a few seconds to make a decision.
He felt that either it was pilot suicide or an attempted takeover of the plane, and n either case the plane would be found in the water somewhere.
Yancy
That is the one that will not go away.
<>the new radar info from Thailand<>
Actually that is Malaysian military radar data and just now they are showing how they tacked it through 4 separate waypoints heading toward the Andaman Islands where an Indian military base is located and didn’t see it.
So much for the accident theory and they were looking for an airport to land theory.
Oh and he also pointed out that an electrical fire made no sense given the events. The anchor said, “Well given what we know this sounds more reasonable. Losing your electrical system would cause the transponder system and satellite system to go out.” Aviation guy cut in and said, “If the electrical system went out, how did the autopilot continue to function? It’s on the same electrical grid?”
Anchorwoman looked flummoxed.
Good point....and they would have obeyed until TOLD not to do so. Commie atheism at work.
As an aviation maintenance & operations person with tons of ground and air operations....I remain fully open to any of the multiple scenerios put forth, by who knows whom!!! All of these folks, including this poster, misses the key component of failure in this unfortunate, and possibly terror incident....our POTUS Barack Hussein Obama. He is quite laid back and unconcerned...that our country might be now placed in harms ways. The POTUS.....whoever he is...has, as his number one priority the defense and protection of the American public & nation.
IMHO......POTUS Obama should have publicly dialed himself in from the minute he was informed of this incident. In fact.....he should have been leading the game of tracking incidents like this one....long before it ever occurred!!! Apparantly....Obama has no interest in performing his number one Presidential duty!!!
I hope that I am wrong....and this is “just’ a flight gone bad from internal problems with the aircraft itself....although, knowing the B777....I seriously doubt out it. Here we are.........twelve days after these events occurred....and we know nothing about it, that is defining....and it appears our POTUS Obama could care less!!! Folks out there In America land.....how’s that Obama....”Hope & Change” workin’ out for ya???
I’m using AOPA’s definition of “total electrical failure.” Sorry if it doesn’t conform to your definition. I had a power cable burn through (recent engine overhaul, someone goofed), resulting in a momentary loss of power with the alternator gauge pegged on discharge. It unpegged as the cable burned through and the lights came on. So, recognizing that I was on residual battery power, I shut down all electrical equipment and operated with flashlight. I turned on the radios long enough to request a vector to an airport 60 mi away, even though the vector was to confirm what I had already planned. Why did you put “request to ATC” in quotes — is this something you find questionable?
Your decree that all conspiracy theories must stop carries no weight, unless der 0berFuhrer, emperor Hussein 0bama, so decrees as well!

I'll state this again. Conspiracy speculation is a GOOD thing. It might actually lead to identifying some potential problems in the future and preventing them. What we have now is government agencies doing things to stop attacks that have already occurred and spending tremendous time and resources reading our emails and catching generals who are having affairs (etc)
As a guy in the design side of aircraft, I just don’t see much in the way of evidence of what happened. Conjecture on what might have happened is actually a good thing - if it is used to determine how best to figure out what ACTUALLY happened.
The fact that the US Government is blissfully unconcerned - that could mean a lot of different things, including that the quality of choom in the white hut has dramatically improved.
I’ve been more or less avoiding the speculative threads, except to point out that they are speculative in the odd post or two.
I think FOX was reporting this morning there is new radar info from Thailand that confirms the flight made a gradual turn left/west heading along the northern arc.
First of all, thank you, but I am not a sir. I am madam.
Second, I am the last person who thinks everything is rainbows and roses.
But I am fair and analytical and rational. Just because I call 1 incident just an accident, does not mean I think nothing bad is ever done by people. Or that there is 0 possibility this is terrorism or even just a single jackass ruining things. If you read my posts you’d know that.
Don’t act like I’m some liberal fool just because I call 1 incident as I see it.
Why did you put request to ATC in quotes is this something you find questionable?

Thanks for the reply. No, I don’t find “request to ATC” questionable, it was your quote, not mine, hence the quotation marks.
interesting facts not being reported in MSM --the pilot was son-in-law of Ibrahim, Malaysia opposition leader sentenced to jail for sodomy hours before the plane took off
Really?
Doesn’t anyone remember the Payne Stewart incident not that long ago? And that was a much smaller plane!
You are so mean! Obama has been busy fund raising. He doesn't have time to deal with problems like a highjacked plane or invasion of the Ukraine.
Inconclusive sounds better than accident . . imho
Well it is definitely heading along that northern arc according to those waypoints but since Indian radar in the Andamans never picked them up its likely they hit another waypoint and headed south.
Note how much info Malaysian military radar had on this plane and yet for the first week Malaysia had everybody searching in the South China Sea.
You keep harping on that but crud happens. It’s not always easy to cry help when you’re suddenly stuck with a real crisis, or passed out unawares. It’s also happened that pilots have been discombobulated especially at night over seas. Anything can happen.
