If all of the statements about the defendant are true, and were before he killed his girlfriend, then any sane judge would have had him arrested for possession of a firearm since he was already guilty of a felony assault, and was making threats of violence.

There are a lot of judges out there who think they’re God because of the power they have. They give judges immunity so they can preside over cases without fear of retribution. The system works most of the time but there are times when a judge deserves to be punished.
