AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Fleeing police, a driver gunned a sedan through a street barricade and into a crowd of South by Southwest festival attendees shortly after midnight Thursday, killing two people, injuring 23 others and casting a pall over one of the nation’s hippest celebrations of music, movies and technology.
The driver struck multiple pedestrians around 12:30 a.m. on a block filled with concertgoers, then sped down the street, hitting and killing a man from the Netherlands on a bicycle and an Austin woman on a moped, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said. The driver eventually crashed into a parked van and tried to flee on foot before police used a stun gun to subdue him.

He is facing at least two counts of capital murder and up to 23 counts of aggravated assault.
He will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Police chases are crazy from the get go. We had a lady and her Mom killed at an intersection because of a Police chase! They know where he is just cordon off the streets and wait for him to surface! They have the tag and the vehicle!
If he goes on foot you got his info! Needless killing of innocents to bolster the Badge Image of Blue and Red Lights Siren and gun locked and loaded!
Oh the lady was from out of town, just came in to pick up her wedding dress for her wedding on that next Sunday!
The guy they were chasing had a traffic warrant and was not Drunk!

Used to be a huge rave. Now it’s corporate with lots of Global warming ‘green energy’ crap and Dem campaigning.

I read an article once about Burning Man. Everyone attending iirc has to be able to provide something to the effort. Money is not used - you exchange services/ barter. Lots of people have things set up for business with t-shirts, food, etc.
People that are more “spectators” still have to “provide” something if they want something (like food, etc.). IIRC a joke, a “smile”, etc. are all worthwhile for certain things. It sounds like a big hippie-fest, but underneath is the old “you don’t get something for nothing” attitude.

Also, if you remember a few years back, Burning man almost got canceled by California over environmental concerns and a couple other things that required ‘permitting’. So you can guess what sorts of ‘concessions’ were made to be allowed the ‘privilege’ of ‘buying’ permits so that it could continue...
