Why on Earth would China shoot down an airliner? They have a very sophisticated intel group. If they wanted somebody dead that person would have an allergic reaction or a heart attack. If they wanted the airliner to go down there would be an “obvious” cause like a failed engine or an electrical short. Why risk becoming the world’s pariah? Remember what the Soviet Union went through after shooting down Korean Airlines flight 007? (They thought it was an American recognizance plane called Cobra Ball. From the angle of their radar the two images crossed. When they separated the Soviets misidentified 007 as Cobra Ball. KAL 007 was off course and passed over a Soviet airbase. It was chased from the rear and the fighter, overextended, fired a missile at extreme range. He never had a visual and could not ID the target as a 747 instead of a 707. The missile flew up an engine and the plane fell several miles while breaking apart. It was a nightmare for the Soviets.)

If the Chinese had reason to believe the flight was high jacked and headed toward their main land do you think they would hesitate for a second to shoot it down? They kill people even babies all the time to serve the greater good. They are “good” like that.

Why on Earth would China shoot down an airliner?

It doesn't have to be intentional......Back in November they scrambled jets to investigate U.S. and japanese aircraft in the E. China sea.......and tensions have been increasing in the S. China sea as China is attempting to expand their territorial claim in that area.

As a side note, following the typhoon that hit the Phillipines, the U.S. sent one aircraft carrier, two cruisers and one destroyer plus two supply ships to help in the humanitarian relief.

That's an awful lot of naval force so the question that needs to be asked, was this truly humanitarian relief or a "show of force" to the Chinese who have been rattling their swords in that region?

You can’t be serious. If China air traffic controllers had ANY indication the flight has been hijacked for the purpose of crashing into their iconic landmarks, skyscrapers or population centers you can bet the farm they’d shoot it down without hesitation.

P.S. After the Muzzie knife attack in China, killing 27 innocent people, I’m sure China is a bit trigger happy upon any Muzzie airline heading into their airspace. I don’t blame them. Not one bit.

I recall the transcript indicted the Soviet pilot did visually ID the target and shot it down under orders.

Even back then we monitored and tracked all AD movements and comm in the region, and today we have a greater capability to do so.

Yes, you are correct, if China did this they would not do such a hack job and more importantly, they would have been ‘seen’ doing so and would be in no position to hide it.

Hey, you and I both know the lack of proof of a cover-up/conspiracy indicates how good the cover-up/conspiracy was.

No proof = absolute proof.

They thought it was an American recognizance plane called Cobra Ball.

And it was just a huge co-winky-dink that Larry McDonald was on board.
