UPDATE [12:37]: Tuoi Tre, a leading daily in Vietnam, reports that the Vietnamese Navy has confirmed the plane crashed into the ocean. According to Navy Admiral Ngo Van Phat, Commander of the Region 5, military radar recorded that the plane crashed into the sea at a location 153 miles South of Phu Quoc island.

When contacted, Malaysia Airlines declined to confirm or deny the reports, saying that the Malaysian authorities are working together with the Vietnamese government on the matter.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reports that China has dispatched two maritime rescue ships to help locate the missing plane.

Possible test of some electronic weapon by the Chinese? See if they could EMP a plane.

Most probably catastrophic failure of the aircraft, either due to malfunction (not likely) or induced.

My own opinion at this point is that it was induced and probably terrorism.

But we shall have to wait and see what the black box teels them.

The will find debris out there soon.

The question still stands.... in fact, if what you say is true, that might even make it more likely.

Could this be the needed ‘diversion’ to shift people’s eyes away from Obama’s cratering, ongoing failure in the Ukrainian Conflict? I expect that group to cook up something strong, to force a shirt in news focus for a week or two.

And the speculation/ guessing becomes part of our culture ... did this, or that or who made this happen. Conspiracy’s will abound.

Could be a mechanical problem, after all, they do happen.

Of course a simple mechanical problem would not feed controversy.

I, for one, will wait and see what the official pronouncement comes of the official investigation.

If it is an Islamic thing, I’m sure someone or some group will claim responsibility soon, otherwise I will wait before making judgment.

Or maybe it was accidently shot down. There’s been a lot of tension in that area with China, Vietnam, PI, over territorial waters.

Your area is too far north. Drop down another 2X to just south of the CaMau cape. 255 km south of Pho Quoc Is.

i would guess that that is the more probable scenario, especially being it went down pretty fast,no one could even make a cell call.

Cell calls are impossible in most airflights, unless there is a system the cell signal can ride, down to a tower.

I worked for many years in that area, surveying for gas exploration and cable installations. If indeed she did go down there, the salvage should go easy, as the sea there is rarely more than 50 metres deep.

However, in the case of a catastrophic disintegration, the debris field would be huge.

Good point. Either shot down or terrorism seen to be the most likely. It it not often planes break apart over the ocean on their own

Nothing wrong with your scenario, though, barring the cell phone tech issue. There’d have been radio traffic in anything but a very sudden event.

Could be there wasn’t, could be there was but hasn’t been reported yet.

i am guessing that whatever happened, happened so suddenly, the pilot had no chance to report any problems or accident,it’s as if either there was an explosion or a swift terrorist attack.

The tip of the wing of the same Malaysian Airlines Boeing broke off Aug. 9, 2012, as it was taxiing at Pudong International Airport outside Shanghai. The wingtip collided with the tail of a China Eastern Airlines A340 plane. No one was injured.

Did this aircraft drop off radar shortly after reaching its cruise altitude? If so, sounds like a triggered device or human-caused detonation of explosive based on reaching its ceiling altitude.

Very few airplane incidents/accidents happen at cruising altitude. There are no major control inputs happening which would put stress on the hull or hydraulics and the engines are just humming along.

While anything is possible, an accidental or intentional
shoot-down would be last on the list.
The plane was at high cruise altitude, over the sea.
Most likely is mechanical/structural failure, second would be an on-board bomb.
Yes, we do love speculation on FR, haha

Wild speculation and conspiracy theories often dominate threads here.

We still have several FReepers who think MANPADS and low-altitude anti-aircraft missiles can shoot down airliners at cruising altitude. Not likely.

I also read one person who suggested Obama was somehow responsible because he wanted a diversion from the Ukrainian crisis.

The UFO theory is exciting. I can imagine sitting in your parent’s basement listening to coast to coast AM sharing your wisdom with the world.....

You can’t convince them otherwise.

Just watch and observe. I bet someone will connect this to the mysterious contrail off the west coast, Michelle Obama’s new hair color, Ron Brown and Arkancide, the shortage of .22 ammo, and a host of unrelated incidents.

Prayers for those suffering such a loss and hopefully we will learn what happened, but if the truth does not match the conspiracy theory they will deny it. You know, it’s all part of the conspiracy.
