Ukraine crisis: Crimea parliament asks to join Russia

MPs in Crimea have asked Moscow to allow the southern Ukrainian region to become part of the Russian Federation.

Parliament said if its request was granted, Crimean citizens could give their view in a referendum on 16 March.

A government minister in Kiev said it would be unconstitutional for Crimea to join Russia.

Crimea, a region whose population is mostly ethnic Russian, has been at the centre of tensions following the fall of Ukraine's pro-Moscow president.

Pro-Russian and Russian forces have been in de facto control of the peninsula, which already enjoys a degree of autonomy from Kiev, for several days.

Obama plays golf, Putin ain't playin'!

Well that's only because Putin doesn't have his priorities straight, unlike our laser-focused, workaholic superman.

It is apparent that Obama and Kerry have just being playing with themselves, thinking someone might take all their lofty speeches as having some sort of meaning.

I doubt Putin or his cronies will pay much attention to the words of Obama and Kerry going forward.

Putin knows the stock they are made of and it really does not factor much in their game plan. Obama and Kerry can run behind Putin yapping at his heels like little dogs and Putin will continue to ignore them just as he has been doing for the last few weeks.

The legacy media here in the US is such a joke, trying to claim all the words that spew from Obama and Kerry have any import with the Russians.

Invading your neighbor with soldiers with their insignia removed is a war crime. Putin belongs in cell in the Hague for that alone. Sickening to see “conservatives” bootlick him.

NATO did not invade Serbia with soldiers with no insignia. Gets your facts straight, liar. What that KGB thug did is a war crime. Putin belongs in Slobos old jail cell.

I've always been for self determination.

75% of Ukraines parliament voted to remove Yanukovick. That's self determination. I was for that while some here weren't.

Crimea's parliament votes to secede and join Russia. That's self determination. I'm for that.

That's holding to a consistant principle.

No, it’s not. It’s twisting facts to suit your position. Following your logic Poland can invade Kaliningrad with 5th columnists and hold a “self determination” vote. No chance that would be allowed. Russia would nuke them first.

You posted that I "twisted the facts" but you didn't demonstrate one twisted fact.

Instead you gave me double talk.

Now if you posted that Crimea's parliament voted to secede while occupied by a foreign power, then I would agree that's not legitimate.

But still believe in self determination.

Crimea is a war zone right now under occupation by a foreign power committing war crimes as we write. There is no such thing as “free and fair” elections in that situation.

Putin said Moscow would not annex Crimea but he did not say Crimea could not accede to Russia at its own request

So what is the west so upset about? Does Obama even know he will get outsmarted by Putin every time Obama opens his mouth?

“In my day, the presence of foreign troops on another country’s soil without the permission of that other country was known as an invasion”

Like the American troops in Iraq? Bosnia? Serbia? Somalia? Panama? Nicaragua? Or do you have another country in mind?
