A study found led by the University of Oxford found that white people develop ‘passive tolerance’ of minorities in mixed areas It said even highly prejudiced people who did not mix with those of different ethnicities became more tolerant the longer they lived in mixed areas Scientists said that governments could create more ‘harmonious neighbourhoods’ by doing more to encourage different ethnic groups to mix

The area you live in can have a huge effect on your education and outlook.

And now researchers believe people can be made less racist by simply moving to live in ethnically-mixed areas.

An international study found that white people develop ‘passive tolerance’ of minorities in mixed areas, even if they have no direct contact with them.

People who do these studies are racist. Just leave people alone and we’ll get along fine.

The universities have become whores of the government and will produce whatever “scientific” results are required.

when the middle class was starting to be displaced by thuggish criminal element in The Bronx, NY in the 1960s, my parents did the right thing.

they did not walk they ran to an area that was filled with folks who work within the system to better their life.

this was not a racial move, this was a socioeconomic move. though the racial differences there was very small it was there.

once those who had turned a neighborhood into a sewer, learns to be productive good citizens they will be welcome to live near me.

Really Sarah? Why don’t you take a long stroll through that ethnically and racially-diverse Harlem and see how “tolerant” the townfolk are with you.

Tolerant of what?!? I discriminate against behavior, not race or color. I do NOT tolerate he behavior of animals nor those who would attempt to mimic said behavior in public. I am absolutely tolerant of my fellow citizens who compose themselves with the grace and maturity expected of a good and decent citizen. However, don’t expect me to step in crap and tell you it doesn’t stink. That is the job of a leftist idiot.

A few years back there was a study that concluded that the more different cultures in a neighborhood, the more distrustful people were and the less likely they were to help each other.

What a load. I live in a little town with one black family and I’m constantly reaching out to lure blacks off the plantation through respect and truth.

Somebody blew the dogwhistle over there.

What news needs to be deflected besides the whole Crimean mess that isn’t settled?

Between whistle blasts of racism and homophobia, people are getting really of hard of hearing.

This isn’t diversity. It is invasion against people who don’t value their own sovereignty.

That's because a.) the people who were not tolerant moved out and b.) if they didn't move out had to hide their true feelings or be branded a racists and possibly arrested.

They reached some incorrect conclusions, that become obvious by looking at the American example, and focusing not on the majority, but on the minority. Because the minority represents change to the status quo, and the majority just react to that change.

To start with, in the US, historically there were great waves of immigrants, with most of each group coming from the same place. The exception to this rule are the Mexicans, who continually immigrated to the US over the course of a century.

In any event, with the discreet waves of immigrants, at first they usually ghettoized, forming tight knit communities self-segregated against the majority. Their first generation were usually inoffensive and industrious, still deeply connected to the old country.

But their children, the second generation, had problems. It was neither old country nor yet integrated, and were prone to form criminal gangs and make trouble. Finally the third generation were mostly integrated, left the ghetto and joined the general population.

Importantly, those that stayed in the ghetto entered a long period of decline, because there was no “new blood” for the old ways, yet they couldn’t embrace the success of the majority. Eventually their ghetto gentrified and died out.

However, Mexican immigrants demonstrated something more to the point about the importance of immigration. They present three models.

The first is the California model, where the Mexican ghetto is extensive, so large and so often refreshed that Mexicans can live there and never speak English or interact with non-Mexicans. As such, they are somewhat intolerant of non-Mexicans, mostly blacks.

The second is the Arizona model, where there are no old ghetto communities, since ethnic communities tend to move over time. This forces Mexicans to interact with whites (very few blacks in AZ). So integration is accelerated, as is acceptance of Mexican-Americans.

The third is the Texas model, where integration is mutual, the Texans adopting many Mexican customs and traditions and blending them with their own. The peculiar “Tex-Mex”.

When I was a kid growing up in Northern Virginia my parents moved to an area that had the “best public schools”. My Dad was retired from 27 years in the army and was a barber. My Mom stayed home. We rented a townhouse.

Bussing started and they shipped blacks to our area, whites to their area. There were race riots, fights, gang related issues every day. You couldn’t learn because you were too busy defending yourself.

My parents sent me to private Military Academy and had a tough time paying for it so my Mom started working. Those schools still have problems today and it’s 37 years later.

Forced integration simply doesn’t work. Never will.
