Viktor Yanukovych: I'm still Ukraine's President, will fight for its future

Simferopol, Ukraine (CNN) -- Ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych gave a defiant performance Friday in Russia, as he insisted that he remained the country's legitimate elected leader and was not giving up yet.

"I intend to continue the fight for the future of Ukraine against those who, with fear and with terror, are attempting to replace the power," he said, speaking Russian, not Ukrainian.

"Nobody has overturned me. I was compelled to leave Ukraine due to a direct threat to my life and my nearest and dearest."

Yanukovych, making his first public appearance since his ouster Saturday, said the newly appointed interim government was not legitimate and did not represent the majority of Ukraine's 45 million citizens.

Almost 3/4 of the reps in the Parliament voted to impeach Yanukovich. That seems like a majority to me.

When have the Russians ever trifled with such inconsequential issues? Just saying . . . they don’t care.

He wants his palace back, and has Russian troops on his side

That "palace" is a monstrosity. I suspect he wants this one:

An Unfinished Ukraine Palace and a Fugitive Leader’s Folly.

He put a lot of work into stealing the land for it.

Almost 3/4 of the reps in the Parliament voted to impeach Yanukovich. That seems like a majority to me.

3/4th of the reps present in Parliament voted to impeach Yanukovich. Bill Clinton would have been impeached if armed protestors had driven Democrat Senators out of Washington.

Bill Clinton WAS impeached. He went to trial and was acquitted by Senate vote.

Putin cares. Increasingly isolated Russia can’t afford foreign policy mistakes. Although, the way events unfold, Russia plays Afghanistan invasion again.

Bill Clinton WAS impeached. He went to trial and was acquitted by Senate vote.

You're right.

3/4th of the reps present in Parliament voted to impeach Yanukovich. Bill Clinton would have been impeached convicted and removed if armed protestors had driven Democrat Senators out of Washington.

3/4th of the reps present in Parliament voted to impeach Yanukovich.

That's false.

100% of the reps present voted to impeach Yanuk'. It was unamimous for all reps present.

A little bit more than 25% of the reps weren't present.
