Sandwich chain Quiznos is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection within weeks as it contends with declining sales and a lofty debt load, people familiar with the matter said.

The company, which has about $570 million in debt, has been negotiating with creditors for weeks on a restructuring plan that would streamline its trip through bankruptcy court, these people said. A final deal on a so-called prepackaged restructuring plan hasn't yet been reached, they said.

It’s decent and cheap. But it is cheap which was the problem.

Just a subway with a surcharge.
No niche.

This wouldn’t be happening if only they’d stopped their exploitative ways and paid a Living Wage of $15 per hour.

Their sandwiches were huge and delicious. Real meat, not that fake meat that Subway serves.

They are a bit expensive but well worth it for what you got.

One opened a few years ago not too far from my home. We frequented it quite a bit. They closed within a few years though.

Great opportunity to run up an account with them.

I tried to like them, I really did, as an alternative to Subway. Unfortunately, every single sandwich I tried from every single Quiznos shop all looked they had been stepped on, literally. The taste wasn’t bad, but the stepped-on sandwich (Grunge look?) look is beyond me.

They were great, a very high quality option. Unfortunately, ours closed, too. Subway is dreadful.

A top franchise opportunity maybe 8 years ago. Was wondering about their staying power as I saw a couple stores close in the last few years. Subway started offering toasted sandwiches to compete. Potbelly has somewhat higher prices and a great toasting method. There was not really a good place in the middle anymore for Quizno’s.

And that's the rub [pun intended]--the ingredients were quality, but they couldn't pass the costs on to the consumer.

It's a lament that I'm hearing a lot from my friends in the food industry. And their attitude is, "yo, you don't want to pay for my ingredients? Enjoy what's left of the menu."

Never been to one either and I gave up on Subway a long time ago.

As I told a Quiznos manager a few years ago . . . they have priced themselves out of the market.

Tried the local franchise once. I didn’t like it and Mrs. KP and I both prefer the local sub shops instead. Steak and mushroom with fresh veggies on a good crusty spuckie roll beats these “cookie cutter” sandwiches any day.

Yup their shtick was the many flavors of bun. Once subway stepped up to the challenge and became competitive in that facet of the business Quiznos had little to justify their higher prices.

My town had about 4 Quizno’s and they all shut down on the same day about 3 years ago.

I didn’t mind them...and I don’t mind Subway...it just seemed like they were really slow.

Loved their sandwiches. Way better quality meats than subway. But too expensive for a fast fooder.
