A House committee is planning a showdown next week with a former Internal Revenue Service official who declined to answer questions last year about agency targeting of tea-party groups.
The former official, Lois Lerner, appeared at a contentious hearing House Oversight and Government Reform Committee last May, soon after news broke that the IRS had targeted grassroots conservative groups for special scrutiny as they sought tax-exempt status.
At the hearing, Ms. Lerner made an opening statement asserting her innocence of any wrongdoing, then sought to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. She declined to answer questions from committee members and some Republican members objected, saying she had waived her right by making the statement.
The committee now plans to revisit the matter on March 5, according to a letter from House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) to her attorney.
William Taylor III, Ms. Lerner’s attorney, did not immediately comment. He has said repeatedly that she did not waive her rights by asserting her innocence.
The committee’s move could add pressure on Ms. Lerner to cooperate with the panel’s investigation. Or it could accelerate a possible legal clash. . .

I have often wondered if a class action suit filed against individuals like her would be a way to bypass the congress. The findings of a civil suit could be quite damaging in a criminal prosecution. I think I recall an attorney on Hannity (Sukaolow, no pun intended) was defending a few of these organizations.

You need a junkyard dog for a prosecutor to get anything resembling the truth from these IRS fascists or the documents being withheld by the IRS and DOJ.
I’d love for a grand jury of the average screwed over US citizens to look into Lerner and her spawn. What sweet revenge that would be.
Time to take the war to them. Call Issa and ask him to push for a Special Prosecutor.

I sincerely think they have been waiting on purpose. They want this and the other scandals to an issue and in the news all summer before the elections this fall.
I think it will be a summer of hearings. At least I hope.
Keep it in the news for the election and act on it once you’ve got a Senate majority. Only vote for Senators that promise to pursue this all the way to repeal of the 16th.
