(Reuters) - Cyber criminals have infected hundreds of thousands of computers with a virus called "Pony" to steal bitcoins and other digital currencies, in the most ambitious cyber attack on virtual money uncovered so far, according to security firm Trustwave.
Trustwave said on Monday that it has found evidence that the operators of a cybercrime ring known as the Pony botnet have stolen some 85 virtual "wallets" that contained bitcoins and other types of digital currencies. The firm said it did not know how much digital currency was contained in the wallets.

Thats a problem I think for any system designed to be anonymous. If your money disappears, how do you prove it? Who polices it? How do you get recourse without giving up your anonymity?
These are probably solvable problems but they would have to be solved for this to really take off.

didnt they say bitcoins were secure?
Nope. They said they were near impossible to counterfeit. They have always said that people need to take reasonable steps to make sure their wallets are secure.
The same can be said for online bank accounts or for online credit card transactions.
Any transactions that require a computer are susceptible to virus/malware/hacking attempts.
I'd say the most secure method is physical cash in your physical wallet. And even then it isn't secure if you decide to leave it sitting on the front seat of your car.
