At least eighteen people — including seven policemen and 11 protesters — were killed and hundreds more were injured during clashes in Kiev on Tuesday.
Many were killed by gunshot and hundreds more were injured, with dozens of them in a serious condition, police and opposition representatives said.
Despite Western demands for restraint and dialogue, the state security service first set a deadline for the demonstrators to end disorder or face "tough measures", and then the police advanced into Independence Square, the center of the protest campaign.

I am so confused by all the Russian Drama.....
I know that some of the dissidents in the former Soviet Union are muslim radicals. I thought the Ukraine had had some modicum of freedom but then their last elections put some of Putin’s buddies back in power (at least I think that’s what happened....since news doesn’t cover it much anymore I may be wrong).
I guess my question is this: am I cheering for the rebels in this case or not?
I think there’s no going back now. Everyone will pick a side and it’ll snowball from there.

See now that’s what I thought but I am having a hard time finding anything news wise (even foreign press) that gives me a hint as to who the rebels are.
Maybe that’s my clue though huh? Since the lefty press (and pretty much all of them are) doesn’t want to talk about the uprising in the Ukraine it must be because the good guys are doing the uprising
I’ve read several accounts of “protestors” being hired and bused in, and there are accounts of merceneries on the protestors’ side now. THe protestors want EU so that is commie stuff.
There doesn’t seem to be a “good” side. The protestors are sort of like Occupukes. But maybe not all are. The protestors are getting very violent. They think they can get violent and no one will hit ‘em back?
What do you mean no one??? The only people who can sit in Congress. Articles of Impeachemtn have been drawn; now the trick is to get them introduced and voted upon
The EU is involved and the EU is commie. So where is the “good” side?
The history of the Ukraine is a difficult one. The only reason they fell under Soviet rule is because they were starved to death until they submitted. There has always been a dissident’s heart in the Ukraine. Many managed to escape during the Hungarian uprising in 56. After the fall the Ukraine should signs of being a stabilizing and somewhat democratic influence in the are.
They want the EU because they think it will bring them economic outlets AND more importantly (and unrealistically) defense by those in NATO

And to be factual the EU is not communist.
Where were you when those same police were randomly targeting opposition leaders and torturing them to death?
The actual real people, who are mostly at home, going to work, raising their children, etc.

Its the Sluzhba Bezpeky Ukrayiny - SBU - Ukraine’s version of Russia’s FSB that is the successor to the Soviet era KGB. The authorities can also call out the Internal Troops to suppress riots and disorders.
I have difficulty accepting Russia Today as a valid source of my information. They are about as reliable as the NYSlimes
