HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Remington Outdoor Co. plans to open a plant to make and develop weapons in Huntsville that could employ about 2,000 workers, sources have confirmed to AL.com.

The deal is set to be announced Monday at a special meeting of the Huntsville City Council, though sources said there may be a news conference prior to the meeting.

Huntsville and Madison County elected officials declined to comment when contacted about the deal this morning. Officials with Remington Outdoor did not immediately return requests for comment

Gov. Robert Bentley did not directly confirm the reports about Remington, but told AL.com today that a big announcement is coming Monday.

Obviously NY is devoid of enough good people.

That is the real problem with places like NY, MD, NJ, Ma, etc. It is that the majority of the people who live ther are stupid government loving cowards who are afraid of having the slightest wiff of freedom, and further fear and envy those of us who want freedom. They elect socialist/statists who think the way they do and export tyranny to the rest of the country.

I hope they make MORE AMMUNITION!!! Especially .22 LR!!!

Went to a gun show in St. George, UT yesterday. NO 500 round bricks ANYWHERE, just a few stray boxes of overpriced 50-rounders. One guy had a sign that said "22 LR 12c ea."

Last month I was at a Kingman, AZ show and one guy had a 550-round brick for $82. Nearly had an embarrassing moment when I saw that one. (A few years ago I grumbled at Wal-Mart when I paid $16 for the same.)

Sooner or later, these liberal clowns are going to do for New York what libs have done for Detroit.

They have already pretty much done it.

The big difference is Detroit is in a concentrated area. It is easy to see the comparison between the economic and social chaos below Eight Mile Road and the general prosperity and sanity north of Eight Mile.

New York State on the other hand is a very large place. It is quite rural once you get north of Westchester County so the damage isn't quite so noticeable as it is spread out. But it is there. Once thriving villages, towns, and small cities full of energy and industries fifty years ago are now decaying blotches desperate to somehow make a go of it. Entire industries and manufacturing sectors have left and people are leaving as they can. I know. I am one of them. Taxes continue to skyrocket as increasing regulations, voracious unions, greedy politicians, and their parasitic policies continue to take their toll.

The SAFE Act may just be the crowning blow that turns the entire upstate NY into a rural Detroit. Upstaters can put up with a lot of exploitation from downstate - and they have. But they always took some comfort they had a nice environment in which to live and relative freedom compared to The City including enjoying their 2nd Amendment rights. Now the politicians have decided to make the rest of the State into a clone of the voracious and hated City.

Cuomo is the white version of Detroit's Coleman Young.

Now Remington Arms (one of the oldest companies in the United States) is joining the flight to freedom.

I STILL think the ammo companies are geared up to make more expensive stuff to meet the needs for all of the Unconstitutional police forces Obama and his predecessors have established.

Per given man-hour, you can make more money on 9mm, .45 ACP, .223, .40 S&W than you can make on .22LR.

I remember reading that the ammo companies only made x-amount of 22 LR per year. The problem comes from all the gun owners getting "an extra brick or two, just in case", which wipes out any availability (I'd do the same, but I haven't seen any bricks in over a year.)

Makes me think of Camden, NJ.

I hope every liberal stays up there. We don’t want them. They deserve to live in the cesspool they’ve created.

Good, common-sense, conservatives are certainly welcome to move here to our growing economies. We ask that the liberal destroyers please stay away.

Very fitting, as Remington made the very first large bore cartridge hand gun in 1868. A .46 cal with a conversion cylinder replacing the percussion cylinder in their popular cap ‘n ball .44 1863 Army. They paid Smith & Wesson a dollar a gun for the Rollin White bored through cylinder patent.

At this point, even the most obtuse manufacturer would realize the demand and produce more if that was the sole issue.

I would have thought that also, but maybe there’s a production line problem.

One guy wrote that the companies make all the 22 LR at one time, then shift the line over to the “more profitable” bigger calibers.

Dunno if it’s B/S, but the scarcity just amazes me. I haven’t seen a round in any of the stores I visit - only at gun shows at ridiculous prices.

Funny, I went to the gun show here in Miami, FL this past weekend and the place was almost floating on .22LR and yeah prices were slightly higher but not that much. Must be a regional thing for this shortage in various calibers.

Hey, I missed your post. Until now. $:-)

Does NY still get taxes from Remington, since their corp HQ is there? Beats me. I'm sure that if the Marxists running the 'Empire State' haven't figured out a way already, they will be. Let's not give 'em any ideas! < g!>
