I checked before I posted. It is a word (never said it wasn’t) but as used here is not an American usage.

The decline of traditional marriage is an enormous cause for concern. The replacement of marriage with shacking up obviously is bad for kids, who tend to end up without a father. A spectacular example arose among single ghetto women during the middle 70’s, who were rewarded with additional welfare payment increases every time they cranked out another baby (courtesy whatever sperm donor who happened to be passing by). One result of this was a horrendous inner city crime spree during the 1990’s, when this bumper crop of welfare babies came of age.
