A tweet from Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas)’s campaign Twitter account caused some followers to do a double take Thursday night, while those in on the joke prompted a chant of “liar, liar, pants on fire.”
Stockman’s social media strategy has raised many an eyebrow with tweets that pack quite the punch, and the congressman’s Senate campaign Twitter account has gained notoriety for its attacks on Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Stockman’s primary challenger. Operating under the handle @StockmanSenate, the Texas conservative’s campaign sent a tweet out capitalizing on the cold weather, while asserting that Cornyn is a “liar, liar, pants on fire.”
Stockman’s campaign did not return Red Alert Politics’ request for comment at the time of publication.
Since his election to the House in 2012, Stockman has had quite the knack for stirring up controversy. In October, the Senate-hopeful distributed copies of a book calling for Obama’s impeachment to every member of Congress. He caused a stir on Twitter during the government shutdown, saying Democrats “curb-stomped” veterans with the closing of Washington, D.C.’s, monuments and national parks, and claimed Chlamydia was more popular than Obamacare.
After announcing his decision to primary Cornyn in October, Stockman’s campaign Twitter account emerged, and his social media strategy quickly became evident. Many posts center around Cornyn’s votes on hot button issues like Obamacare and immigration, and his supposed alliance to President Barack Obama.
But Cornyn has fired back, taking to the airwaves to diss Stockman.
A December poll showed Cornyn had a massive lead over Stockman, with the Texas senator 44 points ahead of his challenger.

Yeah, but, Stockman is relying on Twitter, Facebook and e-mails. John Cornhole is running TV and Radio Ads all over Texas. Dear God, please let there be a low turnout for this Primary and let the uninformed voters NOT show up?
If Dwayne Stovall can raise money for a TV Ad, it seems like Stockman could as well. Are people giving money to the Stockman Campaign for ads and somebody is pocketing it? For Stockman to be the “main” challenger to Cornhole, he’s sure must not be raising any money.
