Cruz (Lee) bill stops Obama from 'forcing' gay marriage onto states

Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced a bill Thursday to ensure states don’t have to adhere to the federal definition of “marriage” and “spouse.”

S. 2024, the State Marriage Defense Act, would require that the federal government give the same deference to the 33 states that define marriage as the union between one man and one woman as it does to the 17 states that recognize same-sex unions.

“Under President Obama, the federal government has tried to re-define marriage, and to undermine the constitutional authority of each state to define marriage consistent with the values of its citizens,” Cruz said Friday. “The Obama administration should not be trying to force gay marriage on all 50 states.” Cruz and Lee said Obama should respect states’ rights to define marriage, rather than it being “dictated from Washington.”

“I support traditional marriage,” Cruz said. “This bill will safeguard the ability of states to preserve traditional marriage for its residents.”

The Supreme Court recently struck down provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act, saying it was discrimination for the federal government to not recognize gay marriages that are legal within some states. Although the court decision allows states to still determine whether to recognize same-sex marriage, Cruz and Lee said the administration is using the ruling to “force” a same-sex marriage agenda.

“It is clear the Obama administration finds the principles of federalism inconvenient in its effort to force states to redefine the institution of marriage,” Lee said. “The State Marriage Defense Act provides an important protection for states, respecting the right to choose for themselves how each will treat the institution of marriage under the law.”

Supporters of gay marriage argue that its a human rights issue and that everyone should have the right to get married. .

There is no right to get married. If there is, will the courts order a person to marry some other person who wants to exercise his/her "right"?

Cruz and Lee just keep rolling right along, I love it! And Mike Lee needs to get his due credit also. These guys are courageous and strong, and are persevering.

What do you want to bet that John Wayne McCornyn will try to put the brakes on this, as well?

They already have the right to get married...all they have to do is find someone of the opposite sex and get married. Simple as that.

What they want is the right to redefine marriage.

Supporters of homosexual marriage say it isn’t about procreation or biology, it’s about love. So, if biology and procreation don’t matter, then a person ought to be able to marry an automobile, an animal, or anything they proclaim to love.

Supporters of gay marriage argue that its a human rights issue and that everyone should have the right to get married.

Regarding PC terms like "human rights" which pro-gay activist justices and judges don't want low-information citizens to find out are not in the Constitution, the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect so-called gay rights. So in order to work gay rights within the framework of the Constitution, supporters need to do the following.

They need to work with their state and federal lawmakers to propose a gay rights amendment to the Constitution to the states for ratification. And if the states should choose to ratify such an amendment, and I don't believe that they can get the required Article V state supermajority support in the foreseeable future, then gay rights will be an enumerated constitutional right and they will be heroes.

Pretty much everyone of age does. Elton John got married yo a woman in th 80s. Mrs. de Blasio got married. Rock Hudson married a woman named Phyllis. Charlie Crist got married when he had national aspirations.

I wonder if Democrats filibuster this if Cornball will vote for cloture?

Probably not. In that instance, he will probably respect the dignity of the great traditions of the senate and let the dems have their way.....

Homosexual “marriage” has always been the Trojan Horse which will totally flip “Good and Evil” and destroy the idea of morality in sex. Freud stated when morality is stripped from sex (the idea that anything is “good”) than culture will collapse. It is what happened in the vulgar Weimar Republic.

It erases Christian Ethics from the worldview of the children, who grow up in a warped, toxic culture—like in the last days of Rome, the Weimar Republic and like the little harem boys of Afghanistan or Samurai kids.

It is to mainstream insanity—irrationality and puerility in males and females and sexualize children which destroys normal sexual identity formation-—an idolatry with removes Virtue (Justice System), and creates a bigger division between the sexes where they are never united in some instances, celebrating the sexist relationships, which actually will deny children their biological natural parent (AND IT IS celebrated as GOOD!) It is antithetical to Natural Law and “Justice” (Virtue) which are the foundations of our legal system. So is abortion (unconstitutional to deny Right to Life)-—but what the hey???? What is Truth/Justice/Virtue?

It is insidiously evil to warp the worldview of little children with unnatural, dysfunctional irrational evil ideology which is protected by a “Justice” (virtue) system. Christianity is the most Reasoned religion which created the Age of Reason and Newton and the USA. Without Christian worldview, we would never have had a Renaissance or the removal of Slavery and Pederasty as a “Good”.

Abortion only helped to destroy the maternal instinct in girls and create tension between male and female and to dehumanize life and start the corrosive sexualization of the children. Homosexual marriage will drive the nail in the coffin. Normal is what children see and the law protects. Children don’t have parents, parenting anymore for the most part.

“I support traditional marriage,” Cruz said. “This bill will safeguard the ability of states to preserve traditional marriage for its residents.”

Nit picking here for sure, but the thing that's wrong with saying "I support traditional marriage" is the unsaid implication that there's any kind EXCEPT marriage between one man and one woman. There isn't any other kind of marriage.
