Justice Dept. latest to apply privileges, protections for same-sex spouses (all 50 states)
Foxnews ^

Posted on 02/08/2014 3:21:55 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Saturday that the Justice Department will now follow a landmark Supreme Court ruling on same-sex spouses, which means they will no longer be compelled to testify against each other in civil and criminal cases.

The policy changes mean same-sex spouses also should be eligible to file jointly for bankruptcy and have the same rights and privileges in federal prison as inmates in heterosexual marriages.

Prosecutors have used various legal challenges against the spousal privilege. But Holder made clear the federal government will no longer make such challenges, even in states where same-sex marriages are not recognized.

All this personally decreed law just gets undone in the next administration. Holder is the key to Obama. The law can uphold or destroy morality.

Holder said at the Human Rights Campaign’s Greater New York Gala

Hey it's Party Time! Any body with even a modicum of respect for the law would have chosen a serious venue for a pronouncement overturning centuries of bedrock civil morality. But why not mix in a little fun and fundraising while you stick it in the eye of sincere fellow citizens who oppose your politically driven agenda?

Wrong. Once persons have rights, it's much, much harder to take them away legally. For example, bankruptcy proceedings. How would a future administration walk back recognition of same sex partners in a bankruptcy proceeding?

Yes, I’m waiting for the 10th Amendment / States Rights / Nullification crowd to come running... Which state GOVERNOR is going to fight this? Answer... NONE!

Washington is broken and simply voting won’t be enough...

well a Constitutional Convention will not change anything (best case) or it will make matters worse (likely). You think liberals that elected Obama are going to allow conservative changes to the Constitution?

Yeah I know about the site and have read through it. convention of states. The Constitution that is being ignored by liberals now would be “fixed” via amendments ... and the liberals that voted in Obama will just let this happen. Yeah right. It is really stupid idea by people who haven’t a clue what we are up against. No personal offense intended

I have an idea what I might do if I was in an organized criminal gang.

“...and have the same rights and privileges in federal prison as inmates in heterosexual marriages.”

Luckily the federal penal system has no problem with gangs; the system might be taken advantage of otherwise. Somehow.

There is a segment in America that wants our firearms, with a history of pushing immigration and open borders, and through other divisive policies.

These policies coincidentally are always intended to elevate the rights of minorities, while eliciting public opinion against and removing political power of the Christian majority. They’ve made it their mission to divide the people and keep them infighting much as predators divide the herd..

Americans need to be wary of this purposeful intent to divide us culturally and politically. Disunity and Balkanization always works against the people and for those with an inclination to throw a match into a tinder box as has happened in other countries.

The media and others have made it their goal to keep the sheep at each others throats with such policies. Then they’ll use the out roar to attack some as evil and intolerant. Americans are being played in an effort to divide us.

The war on Christianity continues, and it's WORLDWIDE. Obama in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, helping Al Qaeda kill Christians in Syria, aiding and abetting a nuclear Iran, promoting dope smoking and same sex marriage in the United States...

The female voter of America is largely responsible for this. Who do you think Nancy Pelosi, Sandra Fluke, Holder and Obama are speaking to? It's surely NOT American men. It's females and homosexuals!

Sandra Fluke made the females cry, and the female voter of America blindly cast her vote for four more years of attacks on America. Thanks, idiots.

There is a difference between federal law(s) and those from the states. How you might ask?, and thus I shall answer for you. Laws in states conferring the rights to use drugs such as Weed (Washington, Colorado, and immanent in Alaska) will result in those exercising this right to be denied security clearances by the Federal Government. The Federal Government can also confer a law onto a State, but the mechanism for enforcement is almost always, always and if not always, usually, by attaching its enforcement monies already given to the States under a prior program and that program's Federal monies pulled or taken away if compliance at the state level is not grandfathered into prior acceptance (See Title X, the schools, etc.).

Simply mandating at the Federal Level a right does not make it law if it conflicts with the State's law(s), however, your point that it creates a grey area whereas the uneducated and militant left are concerned does make it a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Yup. Force their beliefs on us. It is okay for them to believe like they want to believe. But, we of course, cannot not. If we believe differently than the homo lovers, the liberals, the communists, the socialists, etc., we are haters. I am a hater. The hater of the sin of homosexuality. I don’t hate the person. I pray for his/her repentance. But, we are the haters. Because we refuse to believe as they do. It is coming where we are going to jail for our beliefs. Are you prepared to go to jail for what you believe? Are you prepared to have the government confiscate everything you own because of how you think and believe? Do you have a government check of any kind? I do. I have social security. I have a retired military check. The government will decide they are taking those away from me eventually because I refuse to believe as they do. Those days are coming men and women. You might want to start thinking just how you are going to decide when the GOVERNMENT puts you up on the stand and says, “how do you think?” Its coming. COUNT ON IT.

True, but please put "rights" in parentheses in this context. You aren't given true rights; they're yours anyway.

Even if a federal marriage amendment were passed and enacted, it is highly unlikely that the sodomites which have appropriated "marriage" would be undone. If fact, there would be a rush to inundate the system with frivolous "Marriages" before the amendment was effective, just out of spite.

I am a female voter of America. I voted against all of this. I am sick and tired of being lumped in with stupid females, who are just as uneducated and pathetic as the males who also voted for this evil administration. I for one female did not vote blindly and I highly resent being called an idiot because of my anatomy. Many of us are avid free republic supporters and are sick and tired of being vilified as man hating, sluts who are blind, stupid and ignorant. I demand an immediate apology to myself and all the other people of wisdom and honesty who know evil when they see it who just happen to be ladies.

Of course there are exceptions, of which you are one. You are to be commended but there’s no getting away from being part of a group as a whole, as gays are a group, and blacks, and males.. and females. Who does the left specifically target for their vote during elections? Females. Why? Because historically they are easy to manipulate by pandering to their emotions. Why do you think discussion of the ‘War on Women’ only comes up at election time? It’s to stir the passions of females because they typically vote with their feelings and not with logic or reasoning. Like it or not, THIS IS FACT and there’s not an ounce of ill will when I state facts.

If you said liberal women, or a large number of easily duped women, I, a Conservative, right wing nut, would not feel discounted. You would be surprised how many of us are out here. Maybe we are not the majority, but we are a substantial number not to be underestimated. There are also a number of women who are simply uneducated and ill informed, who could be converted to our side especially if they realized that they will not be alone, as there are a good number of Conservative ladies out here. Lumping all women into the liberal group is counter productive. I understand your point, but believe we should not stereotype 50 percent of the population.
