Gun Control: A War Not a Conversation
americanthinker.com ^ | 6 February, 2014 | William A. Levinson

President Obama said previously that the nation needed to have a "conversation" about gun control, and he reiterated this agenda in his State of the Union speech. New York's Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has subsequently boasted that his SAFE Act has criminalized law-abiding gun owners for "offenses" such as having too many bullets in their guns. This helps prove that Cuomo meant exactly what he said when he stated that there was no place for "extreme conservatives" in his state. Cuomo defined his enemies as those who "oppose abortion rights and favor legalization of assault weapons.

Barack Obama's ongoing anti-Second Amendment rhetoric, and the SAFE Act, prove that the left wing of the Democratic Party has declared war on all law-abiding gun owners. Moderate Congressional Democrats have, through their silence, given their consent to this agenda. There is not only no place for gun owners, almost all of whom are productive citizens, in New York State; there is no place for them in the Democratic Party.

This is emphatically a war, and not a conversation. The following, along with the Obamacare debacle ("If you like your Democratic Member of Congress, you can keep him"), are all strong arguments for voting straight Republican in almost every House and Senate contest this year. At the state level, Pennsylvanians need to be aware that potential gubernatorial candidate Allyson Schwartz shares Andrew Cuomo's unethical and dishonest position that gun manufacturers should be held civilly accountable for misuse of their products.

(1) The enemy has deployed military-grade hate propaganda against gun owners.

Does any reasonable person believe that a German Jew could have had a constructive win-win conversation with the creators of this poster?

William A. Levison nails it. You cannot have a conversation with someone who has repeatedly lied and shown that they cannot be trusted. Progressives have piled on gun ban after gun ban, but they always want more and more infringements.

We need to push back against the farce of reasonable gun control that has infected even FR to some extent.

People who think they’re being “reasonable” in supporting keeping guns out of the hands of felons are being emotional and nothing more.

After all, if someone intends to use a gun to commit a crime, he isn’t going to ask a sheriff for permission. Instead the sheriff gets to collect the names of law abiding citizens who ask.

I think both are acceptable translations from the original Greek.

Amen - the Left is relentless and it has been successful because of it. How many of us defer to PC considerations on a regular basis? When those on our side try to invoke anything from the past (morals/ethics/self-reliance/self-responsibility, etc., they get shouted down and demonized as "mean-spirited" and worse. Our side always caves instead of fighting back with the same viciousness. We are all being impacted by the long-term and concerted brainwashing tactics of the Left and it will destroy us.

My “conversation” on gun control starts like this. Anyone who does not cheerfully agree that this is the right direction is suspected of being a genocidal tyrany, or an enabler thereof.

1. As recently as the second half of the 20th century, liberals understood that the 2nd amendment was about insuring against tyranny.

Proof: “Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used, and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible”

Senator Hubert H. Humphrey (D) Minn.
“Know Your Lawmakers” Guns (magazine), February, 1960, p. 4.

2. The current background check system is defacto registration (enabling confiscation and tyranny), but needlessly so, as the objective of denying gun purchases to certain individuals can be met without recording data about what guns qualified owners have purchased. Any “conversation” about pending the background check system should include eliminating any record of what qualified buyers decide to purchase.
