Senate Fails to Pass 3-Month Extension of Jobless Benefits

WASHINGTON — The Senate failed to move forward on a three-month extension of assistance for the long-term unemployed on Thursday, leaving it unlikely that Congress would approve the measure soon and dealing a setback to President Obama’s economic agenda.

The vote was 55-to-42, falling short of the 60-vote threshold to break a Republican filibuster effort.

Republicans and Democrats, many from the nation’s most economically depressed states, had been trying to reach a solution that would allow people who have exhausted their unemployment insurance to continue receiving benefits as long as the government offset the $6 billion cost.

Ultimately, how to pay for the program proved too big a hurdle for senators to overcome.

“We’ve given them everything they wanted. Paid for,” said Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, flashing his irritation at Republicans who blocked the bill.

He said Democrats would keep pushing to extend the benefits, which expired at the end of last year, leaving more than 1.3 million Americans cut off. That number has since grown to more than 1.7 million.

The person with the most control and highest interest in working is the recipient of this “insurance”. It’s a joke and causes net harm to the economy. It’s a massive drag on job growth.

This economy is suffering from what is nationally known as Obamanomics, but what we locals call normal in Ill-Annoy.

I’m sorry you’re out of work. What do you do for a living?

FOUR RINO TRAITORS joined the demonic-rats:

Dean Heller of Nevada

Susan Collins of Maine

Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire

Lisa Murkowski of Alaska

Ayotte turning into a big time rino. She’s always right there with Collins and the rest of the usual suspects.

“We’ve given them everything they wanted. Paid for,”

This is neither the Democrat party or the Republican party money you are wanting to spend here, Harry.

Reid blames republicans. Why does he not blame his democrat puppets? Because they’re up for re-election?

I feel for you. It’s amazing how people who have jobs condemn those who don’t have jobs of not wanting one.

Agree. The real problem is the economy is sucking bilgewater and the MSM won’t even point out the obvious.

Hang in there. I know it is hard. I just said a prayer to The Lord Jesus for you. I am sure God knows your situation. I had 2 jobs collapse out from under me within less than 3 years. God gave me another job. May He watch over you.

Amen. But have you ever noticed that when it is some media outfit shedding jobs, such as CNN, USA Today, or any newspaper, ohhhhhh.......the reporting is that is sooooooo tragic.

Today was a red letter day. It reminds me of the battle of Midway. We crushed that damned parasite unemployment so those lazy bastards will have to go to work and John Boehner dropped to his knees on these damned illegal aliens. I tell you we must now follow up. I demanded Boehner be ousted to my Congressman and he , by God ,listened.

Thank you so much, SkyPilot! It’s all been very mentally disruptive to me. I never thought I would have such a hard time finding a job, and I never have (of course I had that one for a long time, so I wasn’t looking, which in hindsight might have been a mistake).

Thank you, VerySadAmerican! I know there are some folks that like to just sit on their behinds while the gov’t is handing out the money. But I have to say I have a very good work history and I am in a major metro area, if I am having this hard of a time others must be having it even worse.

And it IS all very discouraging, that was something else I never really understood. Let us face it, rejection always stinks!

Buck up! Things will improve very soon I perceive…these are all positives for business owners! I agree with the “Midway” poster…this is the midway and WE MUST NOT SUCCUMB! Fight on! The threat of the 2014’s and the outcome will open up the coffers..keep the heat on!

Never ever give up.
