SAN JOSE (CBS SF) The former head of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission believes the attack on a PG&E substation in South San Jose last spring was not an act of vandalism, but instead a terrorist attack. In April of last year, someone shot numerous rounds that damaged equipment at the Metcalf Road substation and also severed underground fiber optic cables nearby. In an interview Wednesday in the Wall Street Journal, former FERC chief Jon Wellinghoff called the attack the most significant incident of domestic terrorism involving the grid that has ever occurred. Wellinghoff told the newspaper hes going public with his concerns because he believes national security is at risk and that thousands of electrical utility sites are poorly protected.
There was a Freeper who reported this long ago. I was wondering why is was not mainstream. Now is makes even more sense. How slow the wheels of “progress” roll.
More arrests expected over planned terrorist attack

“MAXINE MCKEW: Two arrests in the space of two weeks, but more are expected over plans for a major terrorist attack in Australia.
Yesterday, a Sydney man was arrested and charged with planning an attack on Australia’s national electricity grid.
The arrests are part of an alleged terrorist cell, based at Lakemba in Sydney’s south-west.
John Stewart reports.”
Another “old” one, still relevant, from 2002.
Cyber-Attacks by Al Qaeda Feared

” A forensic summary of the investigation, prepared in the Defense Department, said the bureau found “multiple casings of sites” nationwide. Routed through telecommunications switches in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Pakistan, the visitors studied emergency telephone systems, electrical generation and transmission, water storage and distribution, nuclear power plants and gas facilities.
Some of the probes suggested planning for a conventional attack, U.S. officials said. But others homed in on a class of digital devices that allow remote control of services such as fire dispatch and of equipment such as pipelines. More information about those devices — and how to program them — turned up on al Qaeda computers seized this year, according to law enforcement and national security officials. “
Multiple snipers spent 20 minutes taking out 17 transformers. They fired at the oil tanks in the cooling systems, draining them of fluid and causing them to burn out.
The media called it vandalism. And the public was soothed.
So much for that “Never Forget” song and dance.
That business about the cables is unsettling. Some reports (such as USA Today referencing CBS News indicate the fiber optic cables were “severed underground”. Possibly this is just bad reporting, but it would seem to me that even with some sort of above ground marking, if those cables were buried a couple feet down, severing them with rifle fire would be fairly difficult, especially if the shooters were not at a fairly steep angle above the cables. Am I wrong? Or maybe the cables were hit just as they went underground?
As far as the larger picture goes, this Jon Wellinghoff is a lib weenie enviro-whacko lawywer, and even HE sees the threat. I’ll bet neither Obambi nor any of his top advisers have ever experienced as an ordinary citizen a prolonged (weeks) power outage in a large area where most heating is electric, and temps are dropping to near zero or colder at night.
Of course, who wants to bother with effectively protecting America, when there is so much change to yet accomplish?
I’m not positive, but I believe it happened around the time of CWA union negotiations. It would not have been the first time workers sabotaged telecom lines. They like to do it before a walkout, leaving the temp workers to clean up the mess. So vandalism is assumed first. The area hit is hardly in the heart of Silicon Valley, it’s at the very south end of San Jose. Mostly residential and open space.

The so called powers that be dont seem in the least interested in the “fate” of we the people.
This attack seems like it was only yesterday. I pray that there wont be any further such attacks in our future.
“...what difference, at this point, does it make”
Regime talking point
“This attack seems like it was only yesterday. I pray that there wont be any further such attacks in our future.”
I would not bet the farm on it. Somebody is going to put the grid down. Whether its through hacking or blowing up transformers its going to happen. I would not put it past the govt to put the grid down if they really need an excuse to declare martial law. We are currently putting together an alternative electrical system for our mountain place. I don’t think going back to 1832 ovenight is for me. :-)
The cables run underground, and the cable vaults are underground. The terrorists didn’t sever the cables by shooting them, but by lifting the manhole cover and getting into the vault and severing them there, underground.
Recently there have been a few explosions in Manhattan in regards to the man hole covers.
Real terrorism is never hyped in the Corporate Media. There are many, many bombings and other terrorist acts a year in the US, usually committed by envirowackos, that never make the national news. The government and the Corporate Media only hype events that they can use for social engineering and population control purposes.
That’s true. I realize that manhole covers have been blowing off in NYC practically since the dawn of electricity, but it’s true that there have been a rash of big explosions. And now that communications cables go through there too, this is potentially much more destructive than before.
There is literally no way to protect every single electrical substation in the US from some yahoo shooting up the equipment and driving off.
“This attack happened in April of last year. Why did we not hear about it?”
For the same reason Ft. Hood was “workplace violence.”
Makes Obama’s muslim buddies look bad.
—”More likely union thugs IMO”
And that’s not “domestic terrorism?”
They called Timothy McVeigh a domestic terrorist didn’t they?
It was basically buried last spring, like the knockouts of innocents by black thugs.
It is being brought up now by the retired fellow.
The Gay Frisco local Fox channel 2 has had some good follow ups this past week on the story.
Videos this week showed leaks of fuel from where the storage tanks were shot. It probably was a fairly powerful rifle and at lease a semi auto.
I won’t put up much of an argument, except that the union thugs are in it for the money, not for any “higher” purpose.
