Obama’s Free-Trade Conundrum

WASHINGTON — IN his State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Obama focused on reversing the growth of economic inequality in the United States and restoring the American dream. At the same time, he also announced his support for fast track authority that would limit Congress’s role in determining the content of trade agreements.

The president’s call follows on legislation introduced earlier this month to grant him fast-track authority as a way of forcing Congress to speed up its consideration of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a 12-nation pact with Latin American and Asian nations.

But Mr. Obama’s desire for fast-track authority on the T.P.P. and other agreements clashes with another priority in his speech: reducing income inequality.

This month is the 20th anniversary of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which significantly eliminated tariffs and other trade barriers across the continent and has been used as a model for the T.P.P. Anyone looking for evidence on what this new agreement will do to income inequality in America needs to consider Nafta’s 20-year record.....

[the record]

.....The Nafta data poses a significant challenge for President Obama. As he said on Tuesday, he wants to battle the plague of income inequality and he wants to expand the Nafta model with T.P.P. But he cannot have it both ways.

Right and Left both oppose TPP, for similar and different reasons. Barry’s got ‘em caught in the vise here.

NAFTA should have required that other countries import as many $ of our products that we import fromthem....and then we would have trade equality.
We should have made our business taxes as low as other countries that steal US businesses to keep them here.
We should have made a law to force insurance companies to sell health insurance across state lines, to allow parents to keep students on their policies to age 23, and allowed a dollar amount cap for pre existing conditions, then Obama Care would NOT have passed...and health insurance would be cheaper, people could have kept their doctors and insurance...across state lines worked for Auto Insurance just fine.

If we had done all of the above the American Dream would still be alive and O would have been a popular President, but he never came to help us...he came to destoy us. So don’t think he is stupid, this is intentional.

Now that Obama is irrelevant as a Official Lame Duck, aka OLD, allowances should be made for this tapering phase of his sorry patriotic service.

Obama claims that he wants fast-track authority for the TPP, but can he handle that huge increase in workplace stress?

His multi-year procrastination on approving the XL Pipeline digging of a mere 50 foot long ditch in North Dakota has raised serious concerns about his mental health from Canada to China.

And then consider Obama’s years of procrastination of getting started to begin to think about investigating all of the scandals that Obama has caused all by himself. I don’t think that he can handle anymore workplace stress!

No, it would be the best for all if he did not take on the TPP issue and just concentrated on a single issue.

Perhaps something simple such as writing down just where he was when his four American employees were murdered in Benghazi.

Yeah, right. We all know he's never gonna do that.

Yeah, the stress of his workplace would probably be to much for him at this delicate time.

However, he does take extended vacays on a quarterly basis - - - .

It's obvious, the stress and strain of Hawaii took its toll. :-)
