Enraged protesters stormed government offices in three western Ukraine cities Thursday, forcing one governor to write a letter of resignation, as demonstrations against the pro-Russian president and his allies intensified outside the smoldering capital.
Kiev, the capital, has been the epicenter of two months of protests against President Viktor Yanukovych that have grown increasingly violent this week. Opposition leaders had given Yanukovych a deadline of Thursday evening to make concessions or face renewed clashes there, and they quenched the barricade fires that had coated the capital in black smoke in a tenuous cease-fire.
The president responded by calling a special session of parliament next week to discuss the tensions, telling the parliament speaker: "The situation demands an urgent settlement." But there was no indication that the move represented a compromise, since the president's backers hold a majority of seats.
The protests began after Yanukovych turned away from closer ties with the European Union in favor of getting a bailout loan from Russia. They turned violent this week after he pushed through harsh anti-protest laws, rejecting protesters' demands that he resign and call new elections.
At least two protesters died Wednesday of gunshot wounds, a grim escalation that also galvanized anger in western Ukraine, where support for Yanukovych is virtually non-existent and most residents want closer ties to the 28-nation EU.
In Lviv, a city in near the Polish border 280 miles west of Kiev, hundreds of activists burst Thursday into the office of regional governor Oleh Salo, a Yanukovych appointee, shouting "Revolution!" and singing Christmas carols.

I feel a powerful sense of shame. Shame that this isn’t happening here. Shame that our forefathers look down on us, wondering why we sit motionless as our leaders commit full scale treason against us.
I am thinking that perhaps Ukraine may need to split up.
But even if that happens, The Crimea is going to be a huge point of contention even if both sides agree to a split.

Oh, you ain’t kiddin’! There are now reports that hundreds of people are marching on the regional capital at Sumy - that’s in Eastern Ukraine, right on Russia’s front doorstep.
Yanukovych is losing control of the situation fairly quickly; the death knell would be if the Ukrainian Army sides with the protestors against the riot police.
The worst case scenario is if half the army sides with protesters, while the other half sides with the central government.
Then it’s civil war.
Report just came in that protesters have seized the administrative capital of Sumy in Eastern Ukraine.

I’ve been watching the situation by the hour. It seems that the protesters are digging in and not accepting the compromise agreement signed by the leaders with Yanukovych just before midnight and giving the 300 arrested amnesty. Revolution is in the works. They are building barricades, and preparing for serious fights. “The band (Yanukovich’s regime) is using all methods to choke us. Why should we keep down?” asks Andrei Tarasenko, coordinator of a new radical movement Right Sector which refuses to negotiate with the regime. Graffiti on the walls along the main avenue in Kiev: “This is our land! Liberty or death! Long Live the Revolution!”
By the way, get ready for a poster here who is a member of the George Soros Fan Club, in the negative sense, but the obsession is the same as if he worshipped him, who will repeat this one line that Soros is behind the protests, funding them and organizing via his proxy organizations. Don’t believe it, and you’re “utterly stupid”, and of course a globalist.
