Michigan black student union: ‘physical action’ if seven demands not met in one week
The Daily Caller ^ | 01/20/2014 | Chuck Ross

Members of the University of Michigan Black Student Union said they would have to resort to “physical action” if a list of seven demands issued on Martin Luther King Day are not met within seven days, The Ann Arbor News reported.

“If negotiations are not complete we will be forced to do more, beginning to increase valiantly our activism for social progress and take physical actions on the University of Michigan’s campus,” said senior Shayla Scales to a group of students gathered on campus, according to the Ann Arbor News.

The seven demands, read aloud by an activist associated with the union after a speech by entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte, included calls for more control over the Black Student Union’s budget, more housing for lower-income students, a new multicultural student center, the requirement of classes teaching all students about the historical treatment of minorities, access to emergency scholarships for minority students, increased exposure to library materials and a requirement that 10 percent of the campus be represented by black students.

Besides the speech by Belafonte, who has recently compared conservative business leaders to the Ku Klux Klan at a rally for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the social justice activist group By Any Means Necessary, which strongly advocates affirmative action policies, also rallied on campus, blocking traffic in the process.

Monday’s demands come two months after the Black Student Union began a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #BBUM. The hashtag, which stands for “Being Black at Michigan,” trended nationally and was a response to a campus fraternity’s plans to hold a “Hood Ratchet Thursday” party.

Why, what do these student have that you might want as compensation for pain and suffering, after the lawyers get their cut of the settlement???

If the premise of their grievances are that “if” their demands are not met within the timeframe they specified, why even begin to make those adjustments in the first place???

If their intent is to begin to be more “active” and bring more attention to the issues they demand take place, then I say that is on them, if they do something illegal, or their people begin to do something to another “demographic”...Then by all means the gloves come off...

Isn’t that what socialists like Belafonte and Obama want to happen so they can unleash their domestic army on us???

I think the conflict is inevitable, and coming very soon...

Nothing would surprise me, either way...

Besides...I still need to dig a little deeper...But were those 7 demands listed somewhere, I’ll go back and look, but it would be interesting to see what those things are...

There is a very simple solution to this. The College Republicans (if they have the guts and the budget) need to run an ad in the USA Today and Wall Street Journal asking Michigan alums to withhold donations if the administration caves.

Even a slobbering, brain dead idiot like Sally Mason understands the sound of checkbooks closing.

Coalitions of community agitators will sign up with the thugs of the perpetually outraged skin collective. Individuals going to school will probably get hurt and property of residents of the state will probably be destroyed. Who will the parasitic elites in the larger socialist collective side with?

Hail to the collective BUMP!

However, this is the Univ of Michigan and its spineless Liberal leaders and faculty will quite probably cave to the mau mau tactics of the black agitators.

They are not "spineless". They are using the Black students to advance the Leftist agenda.

Do you have any doubt that if some student Tea Party group issued a comparable statement, the entire membership would be expelled within minutes, with campus police escorting them off campus at gunpoint?

Can't even spell their acronyms correctly and they want to run the university?

This communist-front organization has nothing to fear from the justice department. They can go ahead and commit crimes without fear of prosecution.

Demands are not negotiations. They are just ordinary terrorists. Simple detainment is not enough as this short term action implies release. A more permanent solution might need to be implemented.

Belafonte and this asshat coleman should both be hung for inciting riots.

Beyond that, this is a return to 1968 america. Then it was Black Power, anti draft and anti Vietnam war. Well, we see where that ended up when the government refused to meet it head on with full force: cities burning, cops ambushed, and the wacko libs taking control of the dem party. Colewomyn’s appeasment is akin to Chamberlain with Hitler. You cannot bargain at the point of a gun and not get the short end of the stick, NEVER.

I was thinking the same thing. This sounds like something right from 1968. I don’t remember any of it (I was 2!), but I read about it in “The Age of Reagan”. Stuff like this was the impetus for some changes in leadership.

Another article on BBUM

http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2014/01/university_of_michigan_student_102.html

Sophomore Capri’Nara Kendall reiterated to host Mike Sacks that the group was committed to taking physical non-violent actions on campus if its demands are not met. Kendall said that the organization wishes to remain ambiguous, but actions could include sit-ins, marches or other forms of protest.

“We believe in following in the steps of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi of nonviolent resistance,” Kendall said. “Not harming people in a physical way necessarily, but getting into your intellect and things of that nature.”
