Virginia to fight same-sex marriage ban (Atty Gen)
Washington Post ^ | January 22, 2014 | By Robert Barnes

Posted on 01/22/2014 9:42:24 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring will announce Thursday that he believes the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and that Virginia will join two same-sex couples in asking a federal court to strike it down, according to an official close to the attorney general with knowledge about the decision.

The action will mark a stunning reversal in the state’s legal position on same-sex marriage and is a result of November elections in which Democrats swept the state’s top offices. Herring’s predecessor, Republican Ken Cuccinelli II, adamantly opposes gay marriage and had vowed to defend Virginia’s constitutional amendment banning such unions, which was passed in 2006 with the support of 57 percent of voters.

Herring, too, had voted against same-sex marriage eight years ago, when he was a state senator. But he has said that his views have changed since then and that on Thursday he will file a supportive brief in a lawsuit in Norfolk that challenges the state’s ban, said two people familiar with his plans.

Herring will say that Virginia has been on the “wrong side” of landmark legal battles involving school desegregation, interracial marriage and single-sex education at the Virginia Military Institute, one official said. He will make the case that the commonwealth should be on the “right side of the law and history” in the battle over same-sex marriage. . .

ANAL SEX....ANAL SEX.....ANAL SEX!!! It’s ALL the Left think about....except KILLING BABIES!!!

**

Really! They’re not in office 10 minutes and this is the FIRST thing they make a beeline for ...what is it with these guys? Is this homosexual lobby just that damn powerful? I guess it is ..or maybe some of these “representatives” are members of it themselves!

Never seen such a fervor for any other cause, EVER.

I believe the answer to your question is in the above cite.

Things that are held dearer than life to Democrats are as follows: 1. Homosexual acts. 2. The murder of unborn and partial born babies and any other shedding of innocent blood. 3. Lies, deceit. and treachery. 4.Any sex act such as buggery and bestiality that are too repugnant to mention. 5. Hatred of Almighty God and everything that is god and decent.6. Unlimited political power.

Must be. I think that we can basically assume that the FIRST thing you move to change once in office is what you care most about.

And we can see that here with our new Virginia Democrats.

Forget unemployment, education, traffic problems, or what have you ... anal sex trumps it ALL for these people.

I agree that sex is number one as far as the Democrats are concerned, followed closely by the murder of the unborn.

I'm leaving Northern Virginia next week. Conservatives are so divided, and the immigrant children from the 80s and 90s are now at voting age.

Virginia is done. Stick a fork in her.

This is a repeat of California where none of the elected statewide offices defended Prop 8 in court leading to Hollingsworth v. Perry. The SCOTUS let stand a lower court ruling throwing out Prop 8 based on the lack of of standing from the defendants of Prop 8. The question is does the GOP controlled VA lower house have standing to defend the VA ban on gay marriage, as in the case of the House of Rep defending DOMA in the Windsor case.

Virginia is where 21 to 24 percent of state residents are collecting Federal government paychecks.Adding their families it makes a voting block of about 37 percent.

And we’re working really hard, spending cash and brain cells, to meat all this with constitutional amendments. If (and it’s a big if) anything comes out of the state convention, nothing stops the progs from taking a big crap on it.

Herring likely changed his view when Obama “evolved” in 2012 after a group of fat-cat gay donors threatened to withhold campaign contributions to Democrats if Obama didn't change his stand. After that most Democrats fell in line.

Elections have consequences.

They do indeed.

The question is, how many consequences do we have to face before we admit that what we're doing isn't working?

Elections have consequences. The entire commonwealth of Virginia is now controlled by the sodomite-loving democrats. Only a matter of time before they become the first Southern state in the country to allow queer “marriage”. It makes no difference at all what the people want. Either a democrat judge will rule it legal, or the Clinton-stooge governor will sign an executive order making it legal.

When DADT was lifted in the military, at the same time they also lifted the crimes of sodomy and bestiality, which had been illegal in the US Armed Forces since the founding of the country.

Isn't it though. I followed the election and the fix was in. It was DC area that stole the election for AG.

It's recall time!
