Where was Tom Brokaw?

Posted on 01/22/2014 11:01:15 AM PST by HalTa

I know this is a few months old, but it's something that has been puzzling me.

Where was Tom Brokaw when the "Greatest Generation" was being publicly disrespected and humiliated at the World War 2 memorial? All they wanted to do was visit this open air monument, {many in wheelchairs} that was dedicated to them.

IN my mind, Brokaw should have been there, leading the charge to remove the barriers.

I guess he had to make the choice, Greatest Generation or Obama. He chose Obama.

Tom is a RAT lapdog. He would not criticize Obama.

“Greatest Generation” = BS

Look at how they have left this country

The question was why Brokaw did not speak up for the Vets he supposedly loves so much. Where he was that day was not the question. Too deep for you?

Well, maybe he realized that, no matter what he does, FReepers will whine about him anyway? Too deep for you?

20,000 books written about World War II, most of them better than this one written or ghostwritten by a semi-literate newsreader, but to readers of PEOPLE magazine and MSM only one has been written and only its author’s whereabouts are of interest. That’s the power of the MSM, right in front of you. That’s how deep it is!

Nice catch, HalTa.

I hadn’t really noticed that fact. At best, his silence surely meant disapproval. At worst, he is a coward unwilling to protest such a disrespectful exhibition by the CIChief for American veterans, whom Brokaw made big money off of by telling their story.

Ok, so the whereabouts of Tom Brokaw, whom I do not care about (and presumably, you do not either), are important to FR because it is a proxy for an entirely different argument that no one can bother to make.

Yes, but you didn’t make a million off of the veterans, befriending them, writing their story for cash, and then go dark on them when they could have used a voice on the Left speaking against their mistreatment by the Obama regime, who used their memorial as a political hammer.

I’m not sure what that ‘entirely different argument’ might be, but it seems to me that it is that celebrities, and Brokaw is a celebrity, known for being known, have some kind of obligation to the public at large, and especially to the keyboard warriors, and to appear and speak up where and when they are expected by those warriors.

Yes, but he is not obligated to act in a manner that you approve.

Tom Brokaw claimed to admire the WWII generation for their sacrifices but he was not about to say anything against a man he very likely admires a lot more: President Barack Hussein Obama. Brokaw’s silence when the WWII vets (mostly in their 80’s and 90’s) were shut out of their memorial so Obama could make a cheesy political point was, as they say, deafening. Sadly, I doubt many Americans noticed Brokaw’s hypocrisy but those who have paid attention were not surprised. He’s a leftist and while he once gave the WWII vets his admiration (and sold a lot of books in the process) he gives Obama his loyalty.

I was inspired by the stories that Brokaw told in “The Greatest Generation,” but I remember thinking: did anyone actually edit this, or did the publisher simply slap a cover around the manuscript. The book is poorly written, and in some respects it does the veterans a disservice, because in more capable hands, their stories would have been even more moving.

One thing is certain: “The Greatest Generation” removed any doubt about Brokaw writing his own scripts at NBC. I’m guessing Tom—like most of the TV news stars—spent much of his time engaged in other pursuits, showing up in the studios for any required blocking or rehearsals, and for the actual broadcast.

In the early days of satellite TV, you could pick up the network feeds associated with putting together their evening newscasts. It was rare to see an anchor in the newsroom for any length of time before the broadcast. All the “heavy lifting” was being done by the producers, editors, writers and the technical crew. All of the anchors claimed the mantle of “managing editor” or some title that suggested they shaped the content of their newscast. In virtually every case, they were nothing more than readers.

I don’t know if you remember, but at the tail end of the Kinko’s scandal involving of docs related to George W. Bush’s, which led to Dan Rather’s retirement, Dan Rather in the final defense of his actions finally admitted that he “only” read what was placed in front of him.

And in the Amazon reader reviews of Tom Brokaw’s book we are discussing, out of 564 reviews, only 221 give it five stars and 80 give it one star. In comparison, Donna Tartt’s latest novel, number 1 on the bestseller list has 2851 reviews, of which 243 give it one star.

He’s part of big media. He doesn’t give a rats behind about America past it’s a nice place to live and he can make money here. No loyalty, no pride, no respect. Those things are laughed at by the big media liberals.

AS I followed this story on TV every night I actually expected that Mr Brokaw would show up, look directly into the cameras and express his deepest outrage at the conduct of the Obama administration. I really did. I still cannot fathom what the Obama people thought they would gain by this strategy.

Very original response. Much like a parrot. Too deep for you? Or just a big fan of leftist newsies like Bwokaw?

It's rather sad that FReepers expect a lefty like Brokaw to come running for them, and that to point it out makes one a "fan of leftist newsies."

But hey, it's a brave new world.

Sorry if identifying Brokaw as a lying leftie exploiting Vets for money and then refusing to stand up for them when the Obama odministration takes a big dump on them hurts your feelings. If you want to defend him, that’s rather sad. But hey, it’s a brave new Obama world. Glad you’re happy on the plantation.
