Republican leadership negotiates away stop to IRS targeting of Tea Party
Vanity | 1/17/2014

Posted on 01/17/2014 7:18:58 AM PST by Mount Athos

Did the Republican leadership just endorse one of the most shocking abuses of government power -- Obama using the IRS as a weapon to muzzle his political opponents?

According to the Wall Street Journal:

"That's the big, dirty secret of the omnibus negotiations. As one of the only bills destined to pass this year, the omnibus was—behind the scenes—a flurry of horse trading. One of the biggest fights was over GOP efforts to include language to stop the IRS from instituting a new round of 501(c)(4) targeting. The White House is so counting on the tax agency to muzzle its political opponents that it willingly sacrificed any manner of its own priorities to keep the muzzle in place. "

How could the Republican Leadership negotiate away a stop to IRS targeting and silencing of political opposition? You can't negotiate the civil rights of a political group like some budget line item.

A Republican leadership that submits to it is guilty of malpractice.

It's no secret that the Republican leadership has declared war on the Tea Party.

Perhaps what really happened is they said, oh yeah, we hate them too, let's high five Obama on having the IRS target our shared political opponent, the Tea Party.

This is far over the line, it is thuggery.

Good point!

The GOPe will get their paybacks just like Christie did.

This is the uniparty fighting their common enemy - the American people who believe in freedom, small government and personal responsibility.

Does anyone out there in America today really think that Washington is on our side anymore? We have men and women in black robes making sweeping decisions (i.e. net neutrality) that adversely affect citizens while benefiting corporate and governmental aspirations. We have politicians who claim to represent their constituents while cursing them behind closed doors and coming together against the wishes of the masses. We have an executive who is willing to forgo over 230 years of legal precedent and use executive orders for law enforcement.

America’s starting to feel like a bad movie. We’re all soldiers in the middle of the bush, surrounded on all sides by enemies who wish to do us harm (Russia, China, al Qaeda), and the last communication we get over a sat phone is that they’re recalling the evac and telling us to make an impossible trek to a rendezvous point at which they never intend to land.

One day, maybe not this year or this decade, but one day soon, a platoon of Americans is going to show up at the rendezvous, after fighting a bloody battle through the brush of the world, bruised, battered, scarred, cold, hungry, and afraid but steeled. And we will realize, “Wow, how fscked up is it that everyone and everything gave up on us, yet here we are?” At that point, I hope that those veterans of a campaign of tyranny against Americans decide, “It’s time to clean house.”

I believe the uni’s did endorse due to the fact that any impeachment investigation would reveal the fact and the GOPe could not afford the revelation.

Wow. Call me naive. I wouldn’t have expected it.

Allowing Obama’s IRS to go after tea party orgs might have helped Obama win the election. Also, with benghazigate, lying about keeping your plan, etc. etc.

It all added up and the IRS scandal might have pushed Obama over the top.

Highly likely, however, wink wink, nod nod...not in writing, and, likely the way Boehner made deal with devil/0bvmmer to keep Boehner in check. Oh, and, Amnesty.

I don’t know for sure if they did or not, but it would certainly be in their character. Chinless McConnell took off the mask recently with his declaration of war on the Tea Party, so why not help Obastard kill them off?

The “two” parties are in it together, probably have been a very long time. Obastard isn’t the only big-time liar in DeeCee.

I have no doubt about it.
The Issa committee is a joke.

Lois Lerner basically lied, flipped them the finger, walked off and got away free as a bird.

The Rat/Rino fix is in.

Did the Republican leadership endorse Obama using the IRS as weapon against the Tea Party?

Yes. The GOP is a major player in the conspiracy to make Obama king, trample Americans rights, enslave our children, seize our assets, burn our homes to the ground and turn America into a communist dictatorship.

After a career as a GOP insider, legislative staffer, a communications adviser to candidates and elected officials, I'm as disgusted as anyone over the GOP lately, to the point where I barely consider myself a Republican any more. However you need to read your question out loud to yourself; "Did the Republican leadership endorse Obama using the IRS as weapon against the Tea Party?"

Please, give it a rest. You're making all Freepers look like kooks.

How does it make us look like kooks?

By negotiating away a stop to IRS targeting of political opponents, didn’t the republican leadership effectively endorse it?

Perhaps the shared enemy aspect motivated them?

If you think I’m a kook for thinking this, I’m ok with that, I don’t mind being corrected if I am wrong.

We’re now at the point where there’s only two types of people, regular citizens and the ruling class.

When you no longer trust the SC to be on the side of citizens then it is no longer a power check on government abuse...it is just the government saying to the government, “go ahead”. I’m getting tired of being told to “trust us” and having the SC say something is OK when, clearly, the citizens don’t agree.

We’re at a point where they seem to think they can just tell us (rewrite) what our rights are....and we shouldn’t question it. They seem to have forgotten the contract between us and them, at which point are you justified in not recognizing their authority (we give them)?

I firmly believe that Chief Justice Roberts alarming Obamacare ruling was the last horn blowing for America. I can’t fathom what deal he made with the Devil, but he’s set into a motion a series of events that are degrade our liberty on a nearly-daily basis.

There is definitely a lot of slow walking going on in DC on both sides of the aisle on any number of issues.
