Where did Honor go?

Posted on 01/15/2014 9:56:51 PM PST by rustyboots

Where did Honor go? Do we remember honor? The idea that a person would do what was right in spite of what it might cost him? He had that ability to see what was right and move toward it, by himself if necessary.

In the last century there was General Billy Mitchell. This soldier was exposed to aircraft in World War I and somehow he was able to see into the future and after the war he argued for more emphasis on air power, both land based and sea-based. His belief in air power put him at odds with the political and military establishment at that time. Yet, he persisted, he did what he thought was important for his country. In the end it got him court-martialed and cost him his military career. A few years later we saw that he was right; Pearl Harbor.

Now let us fast forward to the present. A former Secretary of Defense has written a book that pretty much states that he while in office he had a President send America's young men into a war and that that President did not has much confidence in his plan. Yet he sent men to fight; to be wounded, maimed and killed. Did this SecDef show any honor in that he did not fight this order, that he did not publicly state this was wrong and resign his post in protest? Nope, he stayed put and watched men die.

Today we hear that during classified briefings to the Senate, a former SecDef and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs told Congress that the attack on the Benghazi diplomatic facility was a terrorist attack. Yet, neither of these men decided to publicly protect and/or resign in protest when the President stated that this wasn't a terrorist attack, but an attack because of an anti-muslim film? No, neither man could find enough honor to do so.

What is it with men such as these? Do they worry about their reputations? Their retirements? Or future book deals? The problem today seems to be that men in such positions think more of themselves than they do the men they are suppose to lead and the country they are sworn to protect. To contradict a former Secretary of State; "It really does matter".

I agree. It’s spelled out in The Book. It’s all happened before.

Sad and frightening. America will feel the wrath of God and suffer from the machinations of satan before this is over.

I think we already are, and since I do not think there will be any great revival, back to faith in Jesus Christ, it is likely to get worse, and I mean a lot worse. I don't know what else we can do, except read our Bibles and pray, and try to stay faithful. I think persecution is just around the corner and I mean physical persecution, (torture, murder) not just the everyday anti Christian rhetoric we are used to. I just wonder if many Christians will fight back (physically). Some people I know, say that unless the slime bags wake them up, with guns drawn, they do not plan to go quietly into the night. Who knows? Hang in there bro.

You dishonor God with both.

I challenge you to a duel.

Guns or knives?

I suggest words.

Literary gore refreshes the mind more than physical blood and guts strewn about the place.

Not that it will do any good, considering our collective lack of emotional intelligence.

dissed

1. dissing someone is showing disrespect to them

2. being dissed is the act of being disconnected, by voice or by modem, from another party .

You ask a question I have been asking myself since Bill Clinton was elected President,Where are the Patriots, are there any left in positions to make some kind of difference?
Sadly I think I know the answer, don’t want to entertain the consequences of all this, too bad for all of us and our grandchildren

Just before reading your post, I read this one:

I think they're related.

Military officer selection process weeds out risk takers.

“Military officer selection process weeds out risk takers.”

No kidding! Every time Wesley Clark is on TV I need to puke! We would not have won WWII with these “men.” Like all education, I guess “military institutions of higher learning” have been besmirched too.

What is it with men such as these?

In many cases, they have been carefully selected for the position they occupy.
