Where did Honor go?

Posted on 01/15/2014 9:56:51 PM PST by rustyboots

Where did Honor go? Do we remember honor? The idea that a person would do what was right in spite of what it might cost him? He had that ability to see what was right and move toward it, by himself if necessary.

In the last century there was General Billy Mitchell. This soldier was exposed to aircraft in World War I and somehow he was able to see into the future and after the war he argued for more emphasis on air power, both land based and sea-based. His belief in air power put him at odds with the political and military establishment at that time. Yet, he persisted, he did what he thought was important for his country. In the end it got him court-martialed and cost him his military career. A few years later we saw that he was right; Pearl Harbor.

Now let us fast forward to the present. A former Secretary of Defense has written a book that pretty much states that he while in office he had a President send America's young men into a war and that that President did not has much confidence in his plan. Yet he sent men to fight; to be wounded, maimed and killed. Did this SecDef show any honor in that he did not fight this order, that he did not publicly state this was wrong and resign his post in protest? Nope, he stayed put and watched men die.

Today we hear that during classified briefings to the Senate, a former SecDef and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs told Congress that the attack on the Benghazi diplomatic facility was a terrorist attack. Yet, neither of these men decided to publicly protect and/or resign in protest when the President stated that this wasn't a terrorist attack, but an attack because of an anti-muslim film? No, neither man could find enough honor to do so.

What is it with men such as these? Do they worry about their reputations? Their retirements? Or future book deals? The problem today seems to be that men in such positions think more of themselves than they do the men they are suppose to lead and the country they are sworn to protect. To contradict a former Secretary of State; "It really does matter".

I don’t post often, but this was something that just struck me today. I hope it makes some sense.

Honor comes from God. Losing honor is a side effect of pushing God off.

God bless your boots, “Rusty.”

Honor has gone with the God that got disinvited to America’s hearts.

Yeah, I tend to yack about God a lot. That’s my weakness I guess. But when God’s invited back, honor will return too. I also write songs encouraging people to invite God back into their lives. People dumbed God down, then in their jadedness dismissed this dumbed down God. I do not sing of a dumbed down God. I sing of a God of full strength, awesome, Fatherly blessings, ready to return when asked.

And they all stood by silently as the regime pissed on the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

If we still had honor, there would be a lot more duels.

Most virtues these days are looked upon with scorn.

(I don’t mean to say people really can dumb God down. They can’t. However they can hold onto false, weak ideas of God. And they refuse a God they don’t even understand.)

If that’s all that honor stood on, it was frightfully fragile!

That ain’t honor. That’s ego!

The answer is in at least part an education system that worships at the deterministic alter of Maslow.

Every time that Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs is experimentally tested it is shown to be false but it is still taught in basic education classes and used as a basis of educational and social policy. The government at the urging of the left has created huge programs and and spent trillions of dollars because of a psychological paradigm that is demonstrably false.

Maslow said that until basic needs like food and clothing were met then concepts such as personal virtue would not develop in non-self-actualized humans. This is a large part of the Poverty causes crime argument the left makes. The poor are criminals because they have no choice in the eyes of the left. Oddly they combine Maslow with the noble savage so that the poor are also good.

I could write a book on this

And you might illuminate part of the fault, but not all of it, and certainly none of the solution. (A Book already was written about THAT.)

The bible very flatly states: give HONOR to whom HONOR is due. That’s God talking.

Sad and frightening. America will feel the wrath of God and suffer from the machinations of satan before this is over.

You single out one person and yet your criticism seems to apply to everyone in the military. Have you thought this through?

“And they all stood by silently as the regime pissed on the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.”

If they had had any honor, they would have taken action similar to what the military has done in Egypt.

I singled out supposed leaders, not military members of other ranks. Do you apply my criticism to all in the military because they still serve?

Not necessarily. People were more polite when they knew that calling someone a racist (or saying a man’s black wife is a white man’s ho) might cost them their life.

I think the idea of defending your wife’s honor by killing the bastard who insulted her in a duel would be a step up from just allowing this kind of coarse discourse to go on unchallenged.

I say we bring back flintlocks. Most duels in the past ended up with either nobody being hit or a spectator being shot and the dueling parties just going out for a beer afterwards.

You dishonor God with both. Flavor A of self absorption is no more beautiful to God than flavor B of self absorption.

And it would be by invitation.

The circuit of curses CAN be broken. But we have to be willing to break it.

It sounds like you are making the case that the military shouldn’t follow orders from the CIC for political reasons.

That’s not all the possibilities available here.

One would be to quit rather than to carry out a dirty order.
