Target: Me (Turncoat Metcalf Whines!)
Politico Magazine ^ | January 14, 2014 | Dick Metcalf

Posted on 01/14/2014 4:13:39 PM PST by Timber Rattler

I started shooting at age five. By the time I turned 12, my parents gave me an NRA Life Membership. I’ve studied, written and taught about firearms law and the Bill of Rights since the 1960s, helping to enact concealed-carry laws in states across the country and authoring numerous other pieces of pro-firearms legislation. I’m a competitive shooter who’s hunted on five continents, and I founded a 150-acre shooting park in my home state of Illinois. All told, I’ve written more than 1,700 articles for firearms publications over the last four decades, as well as hosting and producing several firearms television programs.

Yet today I am labeled a “gun control collaborator,” a “Bloomberg supporter” and a “modern-day Benedict Arnold”—not to mention a “decrepit, mentally defunct self-important old fart.” And on Nov. 6, 2013, my 37-year career as a firearms journalist came to an abrupt end.

Don’t worry. There’s always a market for guys like you, ask Gary Wills, Ariana Huffington and David Brock. You will never have any real friends, just useful allies. You get to play the part of “tool”.

If Dick thinks that the kind of gun legislation that was passed in NY, CT, CO & CA after the Newtown shootings is worthy of discussion, he’s on the wrong side.

If Barack Obama has taught us anything–and by us, I do not refer only to those interested in Second Amendment issues–he has taught us that Progressives will use language in any way that serves their needs at the moment. Today’s truth is tomorrow’s spin is the next day’s lie is the following day’s “I never said that.” Just as the Progressive movement has waited a century to force government health care on an unwilling nation, so they patiently wait to take away the firearms that stand as the last bulwark against despotism.

Dick Metcalf made the fundamental mistake of playing directly into the hands of those he claims to oppose. He adopted their view of history, their tone, their language and their tactics. In a free society, free men may choose those with whom they associate. Those who love liberty and recognize the indispensable role of the Second Amendment in its preservation have made their choice–a choice they have the right to make. Dick Metcalf remains free to convince them, through his actions, not his words, that he is once again worthy of their company.

That he goes to Polutico to complain is of equal offense as his backstabbing.

Just goes to show that a person can lead a good life, and one bad decision can bring everything down around him.

His decision, of course, wasn’t made in the heat of the moment. He obviously thought people would overlook his assult on the 2nd Amendment. What a dangerous idiot. Makes a person wonder if his intent all along was to gain a bit of power and then see if he could tamper with the 2nd.

And he can’t even blame it on old age, or some woman. Goldwater comes to mind as one who might be excused for saying stupid things near the end of his life.

With such a distinguished history of gun ownership and use it oddly seems that the man has no friends who own and use guns and understand the Constitution. Were it otherwise he would have known that his thoughts were wholly inappropriate in a discussion of Constitutional Rights with people who know and believe in the Constitution.

If he knew anything about what is really going on in the world, he wouldn’t be writing in Politico.
