A state House lawmaker claimed today that Pono Choices, a pilot sex education curriculum aimed at public middle school students, is not medically accurate or age appropriate and deliberately minimizes the risks of homosexual behavior.
State Rep. Bob McDermott (R, Ewa Beach-Iroquois Point) said he wants the state Board of Education to either pull the curriculum from public schools or make revisions to the content.
McDermott said the curriculum, which the state Department of Education had initially withheld from him, includes the anus in its description of male and female genitals. He said genitals are more properly defined as reproductive organs.
McDermott also said the curriculum omits a reference to anal sex without a condom in a description of low- and high-risk sexual behaviors.
"It is unhealthy at best and lethal at worst," he said at a news conference at the state Capitol. "This is not age-appropriate for an 11-year-old student."
The Department of Education put Pono Choices on hold in late November after complaints by McDermott and other conservatives about its content. The department lifted the hold in December after confirming that the curriculum is "medically accurate, appropriate and aligned with health education, state law and DOE policy."
Twelve schools are using Pono Choices this semester, according to the department. Eight other schools are expected to receive training on the curriculum. Parents who object to the curriculum are able to opt their children out of the instruction.
McDermott, who believes homosexuality is "aberrant," has challenged the state's gay marriage law in court. He and others have warned, among other things, that gay marriage would lead to homosexuality being taught in public schools as a normal and acceptable behavior.

Considering all the historical misinformation promulgated by the politically correct droids who populate the educational establishment, and their lack of response to that, I think a lot of parents have simply surrendered the education of their children totally to the state. Apparently as long as they can view reality shows, play with their computers and watch the Superbowl and World Series, they are perfectly content.

The Hawaii state legislature just legalized homosexual marriage in November 2013 even though in 1998 the vote was well over two to one against. There were massive demonstrations against redefining marriage in 2013. Now they're pushing "Porno Choices?" Something is very wrong in the Aloha State!
Thus, the kids wonder why their parents are so "heavy-handed" and so "un-cool" to cause them to be in the "spotlight" after being yanked from the classes.
The Left sex-ed porn-peddlers always has a deft way of shifting criticism from themselves to the parents....and this is proof positive.

No matter how they try to normalize it, the anus is NOT a sexual organ. Geez , the school curriculum is getting more degenerate and twisted by the day.
Let 'em say I'm uncool -- I could not care less. Better that I teach them myself than the sick, twisted school system. The schools are pushing a twisted, "porno" curriculum down the throats of our children, calling it "normal," and calling anyone who disagrees "twisted." My kids could say that all they want, what do THEY know? they're just kids.

Can you give us any clues on where this is taking place?
It should be the opposite. If garbage like this is going to be foisted upon kids it should start with an audience of none and parents should have to "opt-in" to permit their child to attend.
I guarantee the people who picked the title planned it that way.
