After Chris Christie’s Performance
NY Times ^ | 1/9/14 | THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Posted on 01/10/2014 10:54:38 AM PST by jimbo123

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey issued repeated apologies Thursday for the abuse of office that now threatens to undermine his political future. Though he sounded remorseful — and clearly sorry that this scandal might sink his ambitions for national office — he blamed his staff for making him a victim. Unbeknown to him, he said, they shut down lanes to the George Washington Bridge to create a four-day traffic jam to punish a local mayor who failed to endorse him in last year’s election.

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, appearing contrite, held a nearly two-hour news conference in Trenton on Thursday.‘Very Sad’ Chris Christie Extends Apology in Bridge ScandalJAN. 9, 2014 He said he fired his “stupid” and “deceitful” deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, “because she lied to me” about the gridlock scheme. Mr. Christie has also asked a Republican operative and former campaign adviser, Bill Stepien, to withdraw as a candidate to take over the state Republican Party. He, too, was on the email chain. Two of Mr. Christie’s appointees to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, David Wildstein and Bill Baroni, resigned in December as news of the traffic vendetta became public.

Through his 108-minute news conference, Mr. Christie insisted over and over that he knew absolutely nothing about this illegal scheme. He was “blindsided” with the news on Wednesday morning, he said. That was the first time he said he saw emails showing how his aides gleefully plotted to shut down traffic lanes to punish Mayor Mark Sokolich of Fort Lee, N.J. For that reason, he said he is “embarrassed and humiliated.” This version of reality simply does not add up.

As a prosecutor Krispy should have known better, the longer you talk the longer crap can come back to bite you in the rear end...

The Dims were celebrating, not for an immediate take down of Krispy, but for one that will no doubt occur AFTER the 2016 RNC convention if Krispy is selected as either pres or vice pres candidate....

I don’t care about RINO Christie, but everyone realize that this is the media’s distraction of the week/month to keep the focus off of Obamacare.

Correct. Allowing this to go on this long was a stupid mistake. Sorry for all those FReepers who saw this as a killer performance in crisis management, but anyone who has experience in such things will tell you that Christie couldn’t have handled it much worse.

But since it will nip his POTUS ambitions in the bud, I don’t care.

True, but it’s important for people that are discussing Christie for 2016 to see what a thug he is. I have no doubts that this came directly from him.

I could care less about Christie. He was the one hugging Obama a few days before the ‘12 election. He is nothing but a socialist in sheep’s clothing! Let’s go down on the side of righteousness and conservatism. Ted Cruz 2016!

JMJ!

The research committee of whatever they’re calling themselves, already has 1000 pages of documents.

Let’s see what’s revealed, if anything.

I assume people can see that and if not, to realize that anyone without an impeccable character and superior leadership and classic education cannot get to that level in New Jersey without a command of the practice of thuggery, especially after seeing the turncoaperfoance prancing with his Sandy BFF and our nemesis, BO, but I know i expect too much

Is it too much to expect this story to not sound as if he blew up the bridge, dwarfing, for the moment all of the worse things BO is doing to the very fabric of our society ?

You’ll sit down and you’ll take it, as Bogey would say

For some reason, this whole saga reminds me of Sydney Greenstreet and Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre) in the Bogart film "The Maltese Falcon".

I guess the bird is the presidency, but I can't help but think of Peter Lorre complaining about being made to tell such a stupid story that made him look like a perfect idiot.

Its very Maltese Falcon

I guess we were tapping into the tone and even the theme

It was just that slapping around that I pictured didnt even know which flick nor the victim

But you’re right, that’s the scene
