TSA pre-screening program
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented an expedited security screening program at participating airports, allowing certain travelers to move through security with greater efficiency and ease when traveling on an itinerary within the United States or on select international itineraries.

If you are a United Frequent Flier and want to participate, you need to go to your individual page and check the opt in box. I did it this year before I flew to California and found the whole procedure quite convenient. Each of my boarding passes had the TSA Precheck logo printed on it. That allowed me to go through security without:
1) removing my shoes; 2) removing my belt; 3) taking off my jacket; and 4) taking my iPad out of its case.
All in all, that greatly expedited my way through security. I recommend this for any other FReeper who can qualify.
SHOCK!! I just said something nice about the Government. Please don't ban me, just get me a shrink.
I didn’t even apply and United put me in and TSA granted it. Status just showed up on a ticket.
I must say I was treated much more like a human being in the pre-screen line.
Now You've done it! They will now take Your guns away and strip You of Your 2A Rights.
They make it sound like they are doing us a huge favor by easing up on their misplaced “security”.
American Airlines has the same thing. If you get your boarding pass from a kiosk at the airport it has printed on it: TSA Pre-screened. Keep your shoes on and you don’t have to show liquids. Just don’t have anything metallic when you go through the screener.
I got this also on a boarding pass in October - hubby didn’t get it...they want us to like it enough to PAY FOR IT! I got thru only 5 minutes faster than my husband at DFW and BUF. This is the way it used to be - does anyone remember?
Yep, only now you get to pay for the “privelage”. Your choice- a shakedown or a pat down.
On an aside, I was able to get 2 bottles of frozen water through. Just freeze them hard before you go, and drink any melted water in line.
I didn’t apply, but got pre-screened through Southwest’s frequent flyer program. Belt and shoes stay on, pockets aren’t emptied, and computers stay in their cases. Almost like flying in the 80s.
Does anyone know if Jet Blue participates? We just flew on Delta and were able to go through the prescreen line but my husband is a million miler. Coming home from our trip our friends who virtually never travel were also able to skip the long lines. We still don’t know why they qualified.
I got shunted into a pre-screened line the other day. I injured my ankle and am wearing an air cast boot with some steel supports. After setting off the X-Ray, I was given the full “assume the position” treatment. I offered to remove it but was still given the full pat down.
BUT I’ve already suffered a Terrible Boating Accident. Anyway, by volunteering, I get to choose my.own shrink.
The same thing happened to me on a Delta flight this past weekend. It seems to be a random selection procedure. I am in the Delta FF program, but I am not a very frequent flyer.
If you like your Head Shrink, you can keep your Head Shrink.
If you like your 2A Rights, you can keep your 2A Rights, period.
I fly pretty much exclusively on United. I am “one of those people” that refuses to do the whole scanner thing while you make the hands up Masonic hand guesture for “Mason in Distress” as I get radiated more than what the travel itself exposes me to.
I get the full pat down every time. Unless by a miracle they send me through a regular magnetometer metal detector.
Commercial flight is the most unelegant mode of transportation... it’s like riding an inner city bus anymore.
Looks like you’re probably eligible for TSA Precheck. If you are, you’ll be happy to learn you don’t have to do the full body scan or get felt up. All you need to do is the magnetometer.
Ok, get this. Both the wifey and I are cleared for TSA Pre-Check. First time to use it, our flight was so early, the Pre-Check lane was not yet open, and we had to use the Premier line. DOH!!
On another matter, we bought a ticket for my cuz to come over New Years. He travels perhaps once a year by air, if that, when we buy his ticket. He got TSA Pre-Check!! WTF!!
