More Hot Air On Cold Snaps And Warming Ice: America To The Rescue!

globalwarming

All right stop, collaborate and listen: the universe has chosen in recent weeks to teach everyone a little lesson about the pranks that fate likes to play on we humans. A group of scientists sallied forth into the hinterlands to research climate change, more commonly referred to as global warming, by recreating a 1912 expedition and then comparing findings. The better to show how the ice is melting. But a funny thing happened on the way to the forum: the "missing ice" investigators found ice. Or more accurately, found themselves in ice. Or more humorously, they were hoisted by their own canards.

Naturally those of us in the lucrative industry of global warming denialism (hereafter referred to as species-traitors) have taken the opportunity to point and laugh, much to the annoyance and tin foil hat throwing of the alarmist left. "Weather does not equal climate!" they shout. "Ice does not equal ice!" they imply. "you're really goin to claim the term 'global warming' means that temperatures will literally get warmer?" they tweet.

Here at home, in the universe's continuing and no doubt super frustrating mission to undermine the AGW faith, the United States is weathering a cold snap that has Science! shivering in their boots. Average Americans shoveling the snow are sneering at scientists who say that soon we'll see scenarios with super storms and sweltering heat shifting the world to starvation and perhaps, the Stone age. Seriously, you guys!

And now the ice breaker sent to break Science! free from the mortal bonds of frozen global watering has called on the United States, that evil purveyor of all that is gassy and wasteful, to come and bail them out. The Coast Guard is ...

To be fair, the ship getting stuck had a lot more to do with winds than it did with the amount of ice around.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

To be fair the extent of the sea ice is the greatest since records have begun. That was widely known to those who venture to Antarctic before Prof. Turney scientist, explorer, author and idiot headed off with his band of merrymakers to substantiate AGW by comparing info with that from Mawson’s expedition.

Of course the fact their tying up two ice breakers, the French ship left early, which hampered legitimate research won’t be mentioned in the media soon. Real scientists working on Antarctic research are pissed.

Too bad he won’t have to par for his misadventure personally. I wouldn’t be unhappy to read about an unpleasant reaction from his university. The fool probably already has tenure.

So, you are saying the winds played the major role with the ice only playing a minor role?

Did anyone check to see if GORE had stowed away on board. The leftist scientists still were talking AGW smack calling it OLD ICE and WIND was the problem not TEMPS. But then will make amends by planting a bunch of trees to make up for the whole fiasco. I hope they are not thinking of planting them in Antartica

I laugh at how the GW/CC crowd explain the colder weather as still part of "warming": the hotter it is, the more water vapor is created from the warming oceans, creating more clouds that

a) hold in more ambient heat, (while also not allowing in more sunlight, so it gets colder - as it gets warmer....) and

b) drop more precipitation, causing larger, longer, more violent storms.

c) The Weather Channel is now naming the most average of "storms". So it's gotta' be getting worse, right? TWC wouldn't start naming storms just to push AGW, would they? LOL

Minor role? Not exactly, but a big role nonetheless. Sea ice blew in and trapped the ship when it all froze together. At least that’s my understanding. Anthony Watt had some good info a few days ago

So in other words, if these enviroloonies hadn’t been down there breaking wind, they wouldn’t have gotten stuck in the ice in the summer time. Makes sense to me.

To be fair, these are the same people (AlGore) that said there would be no ice in the Arctic by 2013. Predicted in 2008 at a paid speech in Germany.

Paraphrased - “kid’s won’t know what snow is soon” Dr David Viner, Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia from a UK paper in March of 2000 - can’t link article here on FR due to copyright

Same article in 2000 - Professor Jarich Oosten, University of Leiden in the Netherlands, said snow would remain culturally important to man (even if we did not have any).

Same article (this one is funny) in 2000 - David Parker, Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research said “”British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes - or eventually “feel” virtual cold.””

The list goes on and on of foolish predictions from idiots like this expedition leader. They shove every high temperature in our face as proof and deny every counter story. They use singular events like this to further their agenda.

You are probably right about the wind being key, but it is summer down there and they are the ones that tell us the ice is disappearing - they have told us this for decades. Al Gore and his merry band of frauds predicted there would be no ice because of man’s activities. That is the point FRiend.

Oh, I agree. It’s just that the way sea ice works is that when the wind shifts to onshore it will pile up the ice and you’re kind of screwed.

Wind directions and speeds are not even in theory to preduct such things.

However, if the winds had been offshore and they’d found less ice than the previous expedition, they would have trumpeted that as “proof” that AGW is real.

Since the opposite happened, it’s turnabout fair play to use their situation as “proof” AGW isn’t real.

My problem is that I’m incurably interested in the scientific truth, and that is that what happened to this expedition as opposed to the one a century ago tells us nothing at all about AGW’s accuracy.

Your statement:
“The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth”

Please clarify.

By my calculations:
Sun diameter is 108 Earth diameters
Sun volume is 5,280,000 earth volumes
Sun mass is 332,998 Earth masses

What do you mean by “as big as”?
Otherwise, I agree totally with your statements.

The sun is estimated at 1.409 x 10 to the eighteenth power cu km.

The earth is estimated at 1.08321 x 10 to the twelfth power cu km.

The ratio of the two volumes comes out to about 1,280,909 cu km. I call that 1,300,000 times a big.

Sun volume is 5,280,000 earth volumes

No, the sun is 1/4 the volume you stated.

Using 4/3 pi Rs^3 divided by 4/3 pi Re^3, and cancelling the 4/3 pi, you get Rs^3 / Re^3. That's 54^3 / 0.5^3, which gives about 1.26 million, which is approx. what abclily said.
